Lombardi TrophyThe Saints' Super Bowl win on Sunday ended a grueling 43-year title drought for the franchise -- since entering the league in 1967, New Orleans had never played in a championship game, let alone won the big one.

But in taking down the Colts, the Saints became the 18th NFL franchise to capture a Super Bowl crown. That leaves 14 desperate title-less teams, of which four (Cleveland, Detroit, Jacksonville and Houston) have never even made it to the NFL's grandest stage.

So with an eye toward next season and beyond, we take a look at who could be next to break through.

The Wildcast is NFL FanHouse's podcast formation. It's like the Wildcat, but better.

Let's get this out of the way: while many people were predicting turmoil and chaos and beheadings, Snyder and I told you last week that outside of Jim Zorn (and we didn't count the dead duck Bills of course), there wasn't a guaranteed firing in the NFL. Thus far, we look pretty smart.

So we figured with Mike Shanahan newly signed with the Washington Redskins, what better time to fire up the old podcast machine and discuss the various coaching changes (this is part one, part two with a playoff preview is tomorrow), potential coaching changes and desperation in Buffalo than ... RIGHT NOW! But seriously, take a listen.

There was really zero way that Snyder and I could avoid discussing the Colts sitting their starters and losing the perfect season, while setting the Jets up to backdoor the playoffs. I'm sorry -- it's beat into the ground, but there wasn't anything we could do. Fortunately for you, we have interesting points that haven't been made publicly yet. So there's that.

There's also a discussion on what coaches find themselves on the hot seat, our typical MVP talk as well as an assorted amount of goodness throughout the (surprisingly) lengthy Wildcast for this week. Hop on down and take a listen, kids.

John FoxPanthers coach John Fox and general manager Marty Hurney have been on the hot seat for nearly four years now. Last season's playoff run saved both their gigs for this season after a really disappointing year in 2007 that featured far too much Mittens (David Carr for the uninitiated).

Then this season, Jake Delhomme couldn't shake the bug from last season's playoff loss to Arizona and it appeared that owner Jerry Richardson might just have to fire both of them, regardless of whether he wanted to or not. But late-season, semi-irrelevant blowout upset wins over the Vikings and Giants have apparently secured their future with the Panthers for at least one more year, according to the Charlotte Observer.
Fox, whose contract will expire after the 2010 season, will not be offered an extension, however. Sources say he is scheduled to make about $6 million next season.
Fox's entire coaching staff is also included in the invitation, which the Observer notes could also be related to the looming potential lockout.

Brett Favre put up a pretty compelling performance on Sunday night, as long as "compelling" means the complete opposite of "what the Cowboys normally do." Ironically, the 'Boys managed to come up huge against the previously undefeated Saints on Saturday night.

That helps to clear up -- somewhat, anyway -- the NFC playoff race. The AFC, on the other hand, is an absolutely hot, steamy mess, um, so to speak. Matt Snyder and I tackle all of those issues and more, including the MVP debate and just how far Philip Rivers has risen and Favre has fallen in the last two weeks.

Brett FavreMinnesota's stretch run has suddenly gotten a lot more interesting. New Orleans loss on Saturday night means that, however unlikely it may be, the Vikings can capture the NFC's No. 1 overall playoff seed if they win out and the Saints trip up again.

Carolina, on the other hand, has already started looking ahead to next season. At 5-8, the Panthers have already been eliminated from the playoffs. Still, the Panthers aren't one of the more frequently featured teams when it comes to national television, so they'll be eager to spoil Minnesota's party, especially in front of Carolina's home fans.

We'll be live chatting Sunday night's game, starting at 8:30 p.m. Come join us.

It's often said that a team with two quarterbacks really doesn't have any. With that spirit in mind, FanHouse will keep you updated weekly on NFL teams facing potential quarterback controversies.

There comes a time in every mediocre season where a team will have to make a difficult decision. That time has come for the Carolina Panthers.

Jon BeasonJon Beason was arrested Monday on an aggravated assault charge stemming from a Nov. 15 incident, according to WCNC in Charlotte. The Panthers' star linebacker was later released without bond on a "written promise to appear" in court later.

Beason was allegedly involved in an altercation with a man named Gregory C. Frye at Uptown Cabaret, an, ahem, gentleman's club in Charlotte, following the Panthers' Week 10 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Jets rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez had really been struggling -- along with the rest of his team -- since a three-game winning streak to begin the season. The winning ways were a distant memory after a Week 11 loss in New England, though, as the Jets fell to 4-6. During that stretch, Sanchez threw 14 interceptions.

Sunday, the game plan by Rex Ryan and his coaching staff was evident: win with defense and the running game. The old-school route worked, as the Jets beat the Carolina Panthers, 17-6, in a game that was never really in doubt.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme threw his 15th interception of the season in the first quarter of Sunday's game against the New York Jets, and it was the third that's been returned for a touchdown as Darrelle Revis took it 67 yards for the game's first score.

This is one interception, however, that can't really be pinned on the struggling quarterback. This one can be chalked up to some bad luck and a fluke bounce off the back side of wide receiver Steve Smith.

Video after the jump.
