Pete Carroll is "officially" the coach for the Seattle Seahawks now, as the team announced the news on Monday afternoon after a weekend of semi-speculation followed by Carroll tendering his resignation to USC Monday morning.Carroll brings his 33-31 NFL record -- regardless of his success at USC, it's worth noting -- to Seattle.
Nonetheless, the Seahawks seem quite excited.
"We are excited to add Pete as our coach. He brings a great passion for winning and a positive attitude that is contagious," said Seattle CEO Tod Leiweke in a statement. "We now turn our full attention to the hiring process for a general manager. Our intended structure is for Pete and the new GM to work in a collaborative capacity on football matters."
Carroll leaves the college game under much speculation (both for possible NCAA sanctions and the recent revelation that he knew about a coach's pill addiction that led to a DUI).
But regardless of the opinions that anyone can hold of his ability to succeed in the NFL, he's the "splash" hire that Paul Allen wanted and as long as it's the offseason that's all that really matters.
For now anyway.

He is not in touch with reality. PC IS NOT AN NFL COACH.This is biggest mistake he will ever make.
Pete Carroll was a failure with the N.Y. Jets. He was a failure with the N.E. Patriots. He will be a failure with the Seattle Seahawks. He is not an N.F.L. coach. His Rah Rah style may fit in at the college level, but it will not work in the pros. Also notice that without any heavy duty studs at U.S.C. this year that he was pretty much a failure for USC this year as well. I think he is overhyped. Sorrey Seattle fans, but you are in for several more years of mediocrity!! Also, it is a shame that he cannot be punished for his actions at U.S.C. I think the NCAA should ban him from coaching for an NCAA school for life.
He didn't fail at either N.Y. or N.E. you complete idiot. He never got a fair chance, and he made the playoffs half time he was a head coach. He is the best talent evaluator in the country, players love him, he has the richest owner in the league in an upcoming uncapped year perhaps, and he his motivated. He will succeed and everyonoe else will left choking. $10 says his pro career is twice as long as Tim Tebow's.
Good Riddance! As an SC alum and die hard fan, I used to admire Pete Carroll for the leadership and inspiration he brought to the team and the wonderful way he worked within the surrounding community. The "great one" let all the success and adulation go to his head when he left his wife and family to take up with some gal 30 years his junior and build a new house in Malibu. Just shows a lack of character, along with many other sports figures. I no longer think of Pete as a role model but just your average pig when it comes to his personal life. Professionally, he bailed out on USC in the face of possible future sanctions from the NCAA because he did not control his players. Although the email from USC to the alums was gracious in wishing Pete well with the Seahawks, I hope he crashes and burns.
The ncaa is still investigating USC for Reggie Bush and recruiting violations. I am certain this played into his decision to skip town.
When in Rome do as the Romans do.RUN RUN PRICK PETE!!!!!What a scumbag. He fail before and he will fail. Its a mans game and its something he is not.
why doesn't the NFL/NCAA have some type of policy that if you get caught cheating like Pete Carroll, Calipari, Sampson, Tim Floyd, and the list goes on that you get punished...You punish the team when the cheater is no longer there....Is the NCAA going to declare a new National Champion for those years USC cheated??
You have NO IDEA what you are talking about. Just jump on the bandwagon and repeat everything you read in the paper. Tim Floyd did not cheat and never has anywhere he has coached.
He had a winning record 33-31, Thats not being a failure..It would have taken a few more years to determine if he really had it or not... PA made the decision to give him a chance... So far he has had to pretty damn good hires for assistants... You never know, he might make a pretty damn good splash.. He needs to get a QB though... The one he has SUCKS...
His 33-31 is no loosing record .. its not great but indicates there can be some success... the Jets where loosers when he took the job and only had one year... PA made the choice who knows, it just might work out.. He two hires for assistants look pretty good.. He is damn sure going to need a QB though.. I have never been all that impressed with the hasslepuke..
And he made the playoffs 3 out of his 4 years.
I hope USC rings the telly in Saban's office and offers him a few dollars more. I hope it because I want to see if he does as usual and chases the coins.
cheater is going to fall on his face
