If you need proof of just how uncertain NFL scouting can be, look no further than Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin and his Raiders counterpart, Darrius Heyward-Bey.Austin, an undrafted player out of tiny Monmouth, continued his spectacular and surprising season Thursday, racking up seven catches for 145 yards and a touchdown in Dallas' 24-7 win over Oakland. His TD grab was his eighth of the season. On the losing side, Heyward-Bey, the No. 7 pick in last April's draft, hauled in his eighth catch -- matching Austin's season-TD total -- and his first professional TD in his 10th game.
Heyward-Bey finally scored in the third quarter of Thursday's game, hauling in a 4-yard Bruce Gradkowski pass in the corner of the end zone -- the catch was Heyward-Bey's only one of the day. The rookie took the TD ball to the Oakland sideline with him, where he was congratulated by his teammates.
But DHB's breakthrough paled in comparison to Austin's effort. Austin, who has developed into Tony Romo's favorite target, topped the 150-yard receiving mark for the third time this year -- to put that in context, Austin had just 354 yards receiving in his first three seasons with the Cowboys.
"They were playing man to man and he beat them a lot man to man," coach Wade Phillips said of Austin. "He is hard to cover in bump and run. It was one of those games he was open a lot and we got him the ball."
Austin got his six Thursday when Romo hit him from nine yards out in the second quarter. Austin also had a 49-yard grab in the first quarter, then made two long catches to set up Felix Jones' touchdown run before halftime.
"I don't think me having a great game means that we're going to have a great game," Austin said. "I would say it is all of us."

"Austin, an undrafted rookie out of tiny Monmouth, continued his spectacular and surprising season Thursday,"
Correction: Miles Austin joined the team in 2006. He's not a rookie.
Thanks, it's been fixed.
Austin from tiny Monmouth College in NJ, he went to HS in Garfield then went to college down the
shore at Monmouth. Another Jersey guy does okay.
I have to say i dislike the Cowgirls BUT they got me a heap of points in the fantacy football here in Ireland this week..Austin had a stormer of a game and i think Jason Witten is the backbone of your team when his number is called..What a tough guy..But again i dont think Dallass will go far..Futher than my team thats for sure (Redskins) and although a win against the Eagles for us would be a BIG plus for you guys i will be chearing for the win for the Skins im just sad to think it will help the GIRLS to yet maybe get at least a wildcard (NOT)..Best Regards Steve Dublin Ireland
Steve , the Redskins? Dude your the girl! How bout them first place cowboys!
So the article is comparing a 3rd year player, who is playing well (WRs usually break out in their 3rd yr if at all) to a rookie? I don't get it.
I am a Redskins fan and Kelly and Thomas have done nothing in their first season and a half. Maybe next year is their year.
Let's see what DHB does in 2 years.
Miles Austin is finally getting somewhere in his career. In the previous years with the Dallas Cowboys he wasn't doing much. He has showed everybody that he is an elite player, and probably the best route runner in the league. The Oakland Raiders also don't have a good secondary, 16th in the league, so your going to have to give Miles Austin and the Dallas Cowboy's offense less credit. The Oakland Raiders give up 215 passing yards and 161 rushing yards a game, a total of 376 yards on average for their opponent's offense, but that's not what makes their team so awful right now. The Oakland Raiders literally have the worst offense in the league. When your defense can't stop other teams and your offense is failing in all categories then your season is over and you have no chances for succeeding.
miles austin is the man. and to whats his face from ireland f-the skins
