Chargers star cornerback Antonio Cromartie is being investigated by police for his role in an altercation at a San Diego bar, according to multiple reports.TMZ.com first reported that Cromartie was under investigation for assault with a deadly weapon, citing law enforcement sources who stated that Cromartie was out celebrating the Chargers' win "when somebody threw a champage bottle which hit a bystander in the head." Apparently, no arrests were made and no charges have yet been filed.
Cromartie issued a statement on Twitter (@crimetime31): "I want to apologize to charger nation and my fans. There's sum stuff out abt me that's not true. It will come out. God Bless."
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the fight occurred at Bar West and was reported to police around 1:30 AM PT Monday. Police detective Gary Hassen told the Union-Tribune that the "person suspected of throwing the bottle told police that it 'slipped out his hand,' and that Cromartie is listed as the suspect.
Cromartie's agent, Gary Wichard, told TMZ that, "This is absolutely not a story. Antonio didn't throw the bottle. There were actually three other players involved. Antonio is at a complex working out. Again, this is not a story." Wichard then later said, according to TMZ, that Cromartie was at the bar with two other players, none of whom was involved in the altercation.
Kevin Acee of the Union-Tribune backed Wichard's support of Cromartie on Twitter: "Before everyone jumps on Cromartie, several sources telling me it wasn't him who threw bottle. Just saying we need to let facts come out."
The alleged victim talked to TMZ -- though he asked that his name not be released -- and said he does not remember any of what happened. His friends told TMZ that Cromartie was at the bar with fellow Chargers Shaun Phillips and Stephen Cooper, and that Cromartie smashed a champagne bottle on the victim's head "out of the blue."
Cromartie had four tackles and an interception Sunday in San Diego's critical 32-3 win over Denver, a victory that gave the Chargers sole possession of first place in the AFC West.

LMMFAO....SPARKLER NATION. "GET EM TIGER"...
mfl---national felon league -- at it again can any of these fight without some kind of a weapon
Why do they keep wasting tax dollars on
this kind of thing?
They will just issue a slap on the wrist as usual.
Damn! can the NFL go 1 season without a player getting into trouble with the law? to quote NFL Monday night countdown "Come on Man" Damn I love this game but its getting ridiculous with as many players getting into trouble with the law.
I TOTALLY agree I am so damn fraken tired of these brothas hollaring "I just want or wanted to make it outta tha' hood" but all they do is bring tha' hood with them. The NFL needs to DRASTICALLY fine these kats for their actions not just on the field but off. And b4 anyone starts that "your racial" BS...save it--I'm a full fledged sista' from Detroit. Hey since you don't know how to act...take your asses home after the game, get cho'self a big, cold glass of Fruit Punch & Lemonade Flavored Kool-Aid (I love Kool-Aid), kiss yo' gurl (umm... or yo' man--and wow! that's yuck!!), break out tha' Wii and sit yalls childish, no home-trainin' asses down. You get paid too damn much to be messing up your lives, fans team spirit (and bettin' money). If you a key element to the team...Vick, Plaxico, Ray Lewis (yeahhh...you too who narrowly escaped prison) etc. damn etc...you messin' up tha' electric slide for every-damn-body. This just PISSES ME off.
What is this world coming to LAWD HAVE MERCY
Hey there not doing anything to Big Ben
That's okay. it's perfectly normal.
Just par for the course in the NFL.`
HA-HA-HA-HA-HA .. AND ON AND ON IT GOES.
MES PLAY FOTBALLS AND USE DONTS NO HOW TUFF ITS IS TO PLAY.
WAT UP WIT DAT DAWG?
The members of the chargers need to stay out of the bars in san diego. I dont think this is the first time something of the sort has come up. Just because of your celebrity you will be a target. Dude was probably so drunk he dont know what or who hit him. SMH
Or more like the Charger was too drunk to know what he was doing. Seems like the chargers have a few players that get in trouble when they drink. As far as I am concerned the Chargers can leave here and all will be good.
What the hell is going on ? Is the NFL turning into the NBA ?
These guys are very HIGHLY paid PROFESSIONALS, they need to start acting like it !
If the bottle "slipped out of his hand" (cough, cough)and hit someone in the head, then the person he hit must have been a little person.
bar are for fun not for gun. maybe he wont to go to war...
every team should fire every one of its players and get all new players. people who do not drink, drug, cheat, lie, steal, abuse animals, (michael villain), beat people up, carry guns......
just find decent people. and no more big salaries. big salaries lead to big heads. and then you get idiots. either that or get better publicity agents who know how to lie to the public.
