Larry Johnson's time in Kansas City is apparently over as the Chiefs announced Monday that they have released the oft-troubled running back into the ether of NFL free agency.Johnson was, of course, fresh off a suspension based on his recent social media activity and attitude towards reporters, although the official release from the Chiefs doesn't really indicate why he's gone (though it should be obvious):
The Kansas City Chiefs released RB Larry Johnson on Monday. In 75 games (55 starts) with Kansas City, Johnson rushed 1,375 times for 5,996 yards (4.4 avg.) with 55 touchdowns. He also registered 151 receptions for 1,369 yards (9.1 avg.) with six TDs. He concluded his Chiefs career with 30 100-yard rushing games and also added two 100-yard receiving games. In all likelihood, the Kansas City front office will discuss this further at some point, but the reality is that this had to happen. Not only is the Chiefs' season all but over at this point, but Johnson was playing the role of the proverbial "team cancer" and simply could not get along with the new regime.
Johnson established an NFL single-season record with 416 rushing attempts in 2006 when he set a franchise single-season mark with 1,789 rushing yards. He originally entered the league as the Chiefs first-round selection (27th overall) in the 2003 NFL Draft out of Penn State.
Additionally, fans had gone so far as to create an online petition asking general manager Scott Pioli and Co. to make sure that Johnson did not pass Priest Holmes as the team's all-time leading rusher, based simply on his behavior. Add in the lack of any real production from Johnson this year and it's pretty clear that the Chiefs made the right move in cutting bait.

It's about time they cut this crybaby loose. He is only about Larry Johnson and nobody else. They will be a better team without him. I'm happy he wasn't able to break the K.C.rushing leaders record. P. Holmes deserves to hold it until a real team player has a chance to break it.

ahh man im soooo glad they cut this clown...chiefs are my fav team and i hate this guy...all around idiot...slapping girls in clubs to stupid twitter posts, get your act together man. i was gunna be pissed if he broke Holmes rushing record, ONLY reason LJ had so many yards is cuz the O-line used to be amazing...Holmes could make something out of nothing, he didnt need the line to execute perfectly...LJ...he falls on his face after 2yds...im happy, obviously haha LJ is garbage and i hope he becomes one of those pro athletes we hear about being broke in the future.

i totally agree.....and guess what...he'll run through the Chiefs both times they play....we always get rid of players who end up in the same division......1 of which won back to back Super Bowls

My thoughts exactly! My fav team used to be KC b/c or LJ even living in an all Eagles fan house! Bring him to Philly and I will be wearing green!

Paryback, you're so ignorant that you don't even know the word is "loser". Looser is the opposite of "tighter". How's that 2nd grade education working out for you?

Hey payback, do you know anything about Kansas City? To say "kc is a looser (it's loser by the way you moron) and so are their few fans", you know nothing. There is an extremely large fan base here that backs this team through thick and thin. I'm guessing you are probably a fair weather fan and only back a team when it is winning.

Seriously paryback? You make a generic insult about a city and you can't even spell.

Unfortunately some team will pick up this loser, and sad example of a human being, because he has been a fantastic running back -- moral and ethical standards be damned. Hopefully the "has been" part is what they'll get.

you give the line and the team all the credit ? if that line was soo good and great how come they never won anything ? he was a one man team ...he out performed the entire organisation by himself no matter how much they tried to fail or crumble around him !! he still put forth a great effort ....and eventually got frustrated as they harder he tried the more it was like others wanted to fail or lay down ....his career is proably over ....but dont lay all the blame for a history of being good at nothing but losing on one cog in the wheel that actually worked properly !

hotrodVD...ur an idiot, just because the O-line was great doesnt mean the defense was. Our offense used to be amazing, and our defense couldnt stop a middle school team. they used to rank like 30th in yards allowed...johnson sucks, i have watched every chiefs football game since he started...if he was a ONE man team, why is he only averaging 2.7yds a carry ?? and if uve EVER seen him, hes the least explosive RB ive seen as a starter...and hes sooo damn slow, whenever he breaks away LBs are usually able to catch up. AAAAAND he cant block for crap, hes a wayyyyyyyy overrated idiot and deserves to be cut.
