With a bevy of big name coaches likely ready-for-hire heading into the 2010 season, in addition to a lot of really poor NFL teams in 2009, we can expect rumors to be swirling all over the place for the rest of this season and on into the offseason. Thus, it's not surprising to see Mike Holmgren mentioned as a possibility. Of course, most thought he'd have to at least wait until next season to get involved. According to Adam Shefter of ESPN, Holmgren may not have to wait. Shefter reports that the Browns want to hire Holmgren as their vice president of football operations -- similar to the role Bill Parcells has with Miami -- and that the job is immediately Holmgren's for the taking.
The only real question is if Holmgren wants to take the desk job, just for the sake of having a job in football as soon as possible, or if he wants to wait for a head coaching gig. Obviously, if Holmgren did take this job, it would be possible to fire Eric Mangini and take over as the Browns' head coach, but Browns owner Randy Lerner is reportedly content to give Mangini a chance to prove himself as the head coach. It would be a pretty bold move for Holmgren to take over and immediately fire the head coach.
If Holmgren doesn't take the VP job on the table, three others are reportedly being considered for the job: former Giants' GM Ernie Accorsi, Falcons president Rich McKay and former Packers GM Ron Wolf.
The Browns (1-7) have a bye this week and will host the Baltimore Ravens in Week 10.

Could you imagine Lerner has this out that this idea is being entertained?????No way that this idea came soley from him, had to be Bernie????? The idea of the Browns hiring someone who might have a clue, next step, can MANGINA, of all Browns fans, this would reignite a spark for all Browns fans. Hope that this happens if for nothing else, to show Lerner does have a pulse, and may understand his whole MANGINA plan sucks!!!!

Take away the power. Let Mangini prove himself as a coach. Yep, he botched the QB thing. DA is DA. I liked what I saw in Quinn when he played last year. You need to DEVELOP him in a real offensive system. Dabol is suspect as well. Quinn can roll out and throw on the move. How about a little creativity? Bringing in people to run the team makes Mangini and others more accountable. I LIke it!

Gee Randy, how about this idea-
Hire Holmgren for the VP position and have him actually acquire some good players through the draft and trades and then hire Jon Gruden as the head coach. These two worked together well in Green Bay. They are the type of football people we need.

Browns fans, you deserve better than the coach you have. Mangina is a back stabbing liar. When will the rest of the teams in the NFL realize that the coaches Mangina, Crennel, even Weis at Notre Dame are are head coaches because of Belichick. These guys are coordinators at best. Everywhere these guys go they are horrible. Belichicks worst season since these morons have left was last year,11-5.Cleveland Gruden,Shanahan, Holmgren. You deserve better. I'm A PATS fan, however I have always loved the Browns.Demand Mangina go he's pathetic.I'm sorry he left the Jets. They are only slightly better off now with Rex Cryan.

The Chin.....Bill Cowher, originally a Browns player back in the day of Cardiac Kids, a former Steeler, Cleveland would welcome back......But the Chin can coach almost anywhere he chooses to, Lerner can't be an attactive owner to to work for, but then again hes an idiot, look at his recent GM/head coach choices, Lerner has proven he has no value for management of a team and shows no signs of being interested either.....wow what a brain trust. Would love to see Cowher in Cleveland, but Lerner had that chance this last off season, and he could not convince Cowher to take the job, Cowher must have seen the guy is an idiot......but then again Lerner seems to be an easy guy to B.S. so it may not be all that bad either.....
Dump Mangina now, start working on 2010, 2009 is a total waste from the start of mini camp.
Lerner you have had to have read some of the blogs and messages that are all over the internet,,,,make a choice, your losing in so many ways.....as a 40 year Browns fan here, this is rock bottom, not just a bad run but rock bottom. Art Davis management style of a team is not the way to go.
Oh Yeah.....Steelers Suck!!!!! Go Broncos!!!!! Any true Steelers or Browns fan will understand and appreciate that old rivalry that needs brought back. Cleveland is and has always been my team, and the only other team to root for is the one playing against the Steelers!!!!!
"Here we go Steelers, Here we go" What a stupid ass song, but I guess if you are a Steelers fan it makes sense to you!
Again, if your a Steelers or Browns fan, you can appeciate that comment.

Obviously, Lerner is a hindrance to the Brown's organization! He had a shot at Cower but coundn't or wouldn't land him! Cower would "weed out the deadwood" on this team (players & coaches both) but Lerner is not about to bring in a coach who understands TEAM DISIPLINE Oh yeah, Bernie Kosar and Jim Brown (great players in their day, but not what CLEVELAND needs to turn this joke around, RESIGN, both of you!)

Good players are the only answer to the Browns longstanding suck status .... however as a former season ticket holder I would consider buying a season of tix again ig Gruden and Holgren or the like came to town. As is I like to catch a real football game on Sunday and that doesn't include orange and brown.

I think that it would be prudent for all peoples, fans, coaches, players and the like... that are affiliated or remotely interested in the Cleveland Browns organization to simply sit down at a location both convienent and visually pleasent to all parties and do hits from the bong.
In these trying times when the team is performing at such an alarmly low level and the coaching staff, for the most part seems to be suffering from a lack of oxygen, it would be good to blaze up and get high, together, as one.
Smoking the sweet leaf may open doors to the Browns that have been closed.
In addition, ingesting a large amount of laxitives as a means of opening the colon and the mind to greater possibilites that could available to all Clevelanders.
Have a blessed day
