Vince Young did everything he needed to do on Sunday to stake a claim to the Titans' starting job for the rest of the season, but did he really do anything to show he should be around in 2010 and beyond?Young clearly gave the Titans a spark. In the most important stat of all, Young is 1-0 this season as a starter while Kerry Collins is 0-6. The inaccuracy that has plagued Young in the past wasn't visible. Young arguably had two bad passes all game, and only one of those -- a near interception on a deep ball to Justin Gage -- was a true mistake.
But before people start annointing Young as the Titans quarterback of the future again, it's worth noting that Young was 15-of-18 for only 125 yards, and almost all of his passes were of the dump-off variety.
He did show his arm strength with a back-foot pass on a sideline route to Kenny Britt, but he was more often checking down to tight end Bo Scaife. He also showed that he was just as comfortable taking off and running if no one was open downfield.
All of that was good, but Young playing like he did on Sunday wins games when Chris Johnson breaks long runs and the defense plays well. It's the kind of approach that can win a lot of games, but you do have to wonder if it's enough to get the Titans to the Super Bowl.
If this is just the start for Young, he could somehow resurrect his career in Tennessee. But if that was VY at his best, than his best just isn't good enough.

JJ Cooper if you could tell us what benchmarks VY needs to pass in order to get your approval on the components necessary to be an NFL QB, VY then should be able to focus on those goals to be successful. It is obvious your not concerned about stats on VY. For example his 19-11 win/loss record. Or his 62% completion percentage in his 2nd yr. Or being a pro bowl QB and taking a team to the playoffs in his 2nd year. I say that because his stats have always been better than KC who is 13-13 as a titans starter and hovers around 53% completion for his career. Not to mention KC lost 8 games in a row. Yet there are no articles about KC should never play football again. VY is doing better than leinart and cutler. Cutler puts up big numbers in losing efforts every week. He has lost more games than he's won and was traded from the broncos for being a disruption. Anyway back to VY. Notice how Fisher only gave VY majority of snaps on Thurs when he was announced starter. Less than a week to prepare and yet he still one. Did you notice the time of possession? Are you aware Fisher ball doesn't require 200yd passing days?
Sorry almost forgot. There is this weird thing called statistics on NFL.com. You should check it out sometime. Once youre there look at a guy name Peyton Manning and add up his int's for his first 4yrs as QB. Notice how they add to a measly 81 which includes 28 in his rookie year. Now compare that to VY and his total of 33. Oh BTW Manning had two pro bowlers/hall of famers in faulk/harrison and yet he still put up those amazing ints. Go figure.
I'm with the vigilante. What the hell does Vince Young have to do? He has a great game playing Titans football and we get a negative article.
I'm willing to bet the media members/bloggers were throwing their collective laptops around over Young not falling on his face.
It's naive for you to say Vince can only win games when CJ and the defense do well. Vince is the reason CJ and the defense did well. Vince picked up third downs and didn't throw incompletions which keeps the defense rested off the field. Vince's threat to run (which he did well) opened up holes for CJ since the defense couldn't play only to stop the RB. Vince makes the team better - he did it in college, his rookie year, his second year, and now this year.
