An ex-wife and an ex-girlfriend of Oakland Raiders coach Tom Cable have claimed that he physically abused them during their relationships, an ESPN Outside the Lines report detailed Sunday. The ESPN report features both Cable's first wife and his recent ex-girlfriend saying Cable exhibited a pattern of abusive behavior, including punching them.
ESPN also reports that Cable's second wife, Glenda Cable, said in their divorce proceedings that he was physically abusive. Glenda, however, declined to be interviewed by ESPN and recanted her claims of physical abuse in a statement issued through her attorney.
Sandy Cable says she's speaking out now because she's concerned that her ex-husband will hurt someone even worse than he hurt her. Sandy Cable noted that Tom Cable was accused by ex-Raiders assistant Randy Hanson of breaking his jaw, and Sandy -- who is now a police officer -- said Cable will continue to physically assault the people he has power over.
"He's going to hurt somebody," Cable's ex-wife said. "More so than what he's done to Randy Hanson, more than what he's done to me, more than what he's done to anybody else."
UPDATE: Tom Cable released a statement to ESPN saying he has hit a woman "on only one occasion in my life" and adding, "More than 20 years ago, during my first marriage, I became aware that my wife Sandy had committed adultery. I became very angry and slapped her with an open hand. What I did was wrong and I have regretted and felt sorrow about that moment ever since."

What a disgrace that the prosecutors refused to
bring charges against Cable. How the hell did
the guy's jaw get broken? What an injustice.
What Cable needs is to be fired by the NFL, where
is the commissioner when all this is happening? He
is quick to fine, bring charges, etc. against players, what about this abusive bastard? If he
were my boyfriend/husband, I would wait until he
was sleeping, then go upside his head with a base
ball bat. Try and fight back then, you punk.

Hey sedona, of course no one is perfect but I know I have never struck a woman before. Cable is a POS clown and it seems fitting being that he works for the Raiders, the goofiest bunch of losers on the planet.

Well, he admitted he hit his first wife, but he blamed her behavior for that. That's what all abusers do, blame the other person. "Look what you made me do!" Classic. Sooner or later, he'll have to answer for his actions. I just hope someone won't be killed before it happens. Oprah is right: If he hit you once, he will do it again.

A lot of things get said during and after divorces, but if Cable will assult an assistant while in a meeting with other coaches, I have no doubt that he'd hit his wives.
He doesn't have the balls to unload on a player. Some linebacker would certainly take him out.
As soon as the other coaches confirmed Hanson's story, the Oakland management should have fired him on the spot and negated all conditions of his contract.

The other coaches didn't back Hanson's story. Reread the article. They backed the coach.

The media is just trying to make another story out of the Raiders. Espn is pretty bias in its reporting of the raiders criticizing their everymove. Cable was not charged with any crime therefore no one should believe he did commit a crime unless you don't have faith in your own criminal justice system. I think the raiders are just an easy target to start some controversy in the media and possibly lose a respected coach in the locker room.

Tom Cable is a Raider. How could he act any other way? A team of thugs, rooted for by thugs, he's a perfect fit in Oakland. I hope Randy Hanson takes that scumbag for all he's worth.

I agree completely. Then, maybe the Raiders will win a few games. What they have now is disgraceful.

I've got an idea... Hey Tom, Al Davis said Yo Momma wears combat boots, at least. That ought to fix it.

He is an embarrasment to the NFL. The NFL doesn't seem to have a problem fining players for dancing in the end zone after a score but a coach is held to higher standards. Apparently sucker punching another coach is just childish play. I am a Brown's fan searching for any help from any souce and I wouldn't want to see Cable anywhere near Cleveland other than a cage in the pound. Maybe a MMA cage is where he belongs anyway.

caramelosdos: Until I saw your comment, I had not known the status of the Hanson event. I Googled Cable and read the 10/22/09 article in the SF Chronicle. The DA said Hanson gave conflicting stories to the hospital personnel, the police, and the investigators. Hanson sounds pretty squirrely.
But, it's really hard to believe that Cable "bumped" into another coach who "bumped" into Hanson, knocking him out of his chair and breaking his jaw. (That's the DA's version.)
The DA conceded that Cable did grab Hanson while he was on the floor, that it was technically an assault, but that it was "no big deal".
What happened to the previous story that Cable slammed Hanson's head into the wall and threatened to kill him? At one point, at least one other coach who was in the room supported that version of the event.
My guess is that some of the coaches wussed out on the real story for fear of losing their jobs. Al Davis is a nut case and all the coaches know that.
There are suspicions that the local police did not press the issue because they did not want to lose the Raiders' business. The Raiders hold training camp and fill the same Mariott hotel every year.
Money talks and the truth walks.

Wow, all of this going on in "Raiderland" and ESPN has to interview Coach Locksley from University of New Mexico for just choking his assistant coach. I guess we will be seeing Locksley in the NFL soon. They should both be fired! Average Joe can't go around assaulting people. I guess money talks as usual.
