Week 8 NFL Picks: Favre-Fest, Part II

Brett FavreThe hype for Brett Favre's return to Green Bay was inevitable as soon as he made his decision to return for yet another NFL season, this with the Minnesota Vikings. It's now officially out of hand as Brett returns to Wisconsin.

Is all this anticlimactic? After all, Favre already has faced the Packers -- at the Metrodome in Week Four, quarterbacking the Vikings to a 30-23 win. In a Monday night game, no less.

But yes, this is something else -- a return to the place Favre played for 16 seasons and led the Packers to two Super Bowls, winning one and getting them to the brink of several others. A hero turned -- in the eyes of numerous Green Bay fans -- into a traitor.

While the media hypes everything it can -- Fox will have a "Favre cam'' -- it' should be noted that this is an important game, especially for Green Bay. The Vikings are 6-1, the Packers 4-2, so a Minnesota win puts it two games ahead in the loss column plus a tiebreak in the NFC North; a Green Bay win makes them even there.

Green Bay is favored by three points -- for that home-field advantage. Favre and the Vikings lost last week for the first time -- in Pittsburgh, a tough venue because of some freaky bounces and a bad call.

Vikings at Packers

Team Pointspread Projected Score
Minnesota Vikings 23
Green Bay Packers - 3 20

I'm going to wear out this one.The Broncos WILL lose a game this year. Almost surely more than one or two.

They are a good team but the Ravens are an unlucky 3-3.

Team Pointspread Projected Score
Denver Broncos 16
Baltimore Ravens - 3 20

Six games into the season, fans in New Orleans are talking 16-0 on the way to 19-0. Not Sean Payton, of course. Nor all but one of his players. They know better, except for Reggie Bush, who won so much at Southern Cal that he's forgotten that parity is the rule in the NFL. But fans who have spent the 40-year life of the team rooting primarily for hard-core losers have stars in their eyes.

Take heed. Another team with "New'' in front of its name found out about 19-0.

Not this week. Or at least probably not.

Falcons at Saints (Monday night)

Team Pointspread Projected Score
Atlanta Falcons 30
New Orleans Saints - 10 37
Giants are favored? After losing two straight? They may be getting a little healthier and the Eagles should be without Brian Westbrook. (Should because the guy was knocked unconscious with a concussion last week and that ought to be a mandatory one week vacation.)

Giants at Eagles

Team Pointspread Projected Score
New York Giants - 1 21
Philadelphia Eagles 17
The folks in Vegas love this game. They've been taking a beating because they can't make the line high enough to cover the beatings the NFL's awful teams have been taking. This week they get two awful teams.

Home field.
