Recently, Larry Johnson has made waves -- to put it mildly -- not only with his angry tweeting at Todd Haley but also with his recent inappropriate comments to reporters. And now it appears as if he could be suspended by the Kansas City Chiefs sometime soon.According to a statement from the Chiefs, Johnson has been asked to stay away from team activities while the NFL and Kansas City's front office conduct an investigation into his recent statements. All of this despite an apology from Johnson on Tuesday.
The Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League are continuing to investigate the alleged comments made by Larry Johnson. Until that review is complete, the Chiefs have instructed Larry to refrain from practicing with the Chiefs or participating in other team activities. A decision regarding Larry's status will be made once the investigation has concluded. Now, there's a couple of factors to consider here. First, Johnson apologized (you can read it at the KC Star if you want, but it's pretty standard, including a bit about not being a "good role model" and telling his coach, the commish, the fans and his teammates that he's sorry). So he at least deserves some sort of break on that end.
At the same time though, Bob Griese apologized too, and he's still staring down a one-week suspension for talking about Juan Pablo Montoya and tacos. The point there being that, as we all know, there's only so much a standard apology can do when a public figure says something highly offensive.
Additionally, Johnson allegedly referring to a group of reporters in a homophobic manner came directly on the heels of his Twitter freak-out -- it's a bad, back-to-back combination of publicly noted displays that Roger Goodell and Scott Pioli cannot possibly be enthused about.
However, they haven't suspended him yet, so there's always a chance that Johnson could end up just paying a lot of money to the organization and the NFL for his behavior. Of course, some people actually think that would be the best thing for the Chiefs -- Johnson's a distraction, no doubt, but he's certainly keeping people in Kansas City from staring too hard at the team's record.

No First Ammendment rights for the NFL????????
Yes; the First Ammendment rights apply in all sectors.
But the ammendment only gaurantees a citizen the right to free speech. It doesn't gaurantee that there can/may or will have ramnifications because of what you say.
Because this a free country, people and corporations also have the right to sue, dismiss or suspend those in their employ.
If the team and/or the NFL decide to suspend or terminate his season/career; so be it! People like you and others seems to feel that everyone can say and do what they want without fear of retribution because we live in a country with such liberal laws that allow so many things that other countries do not.
Guess what; you are wrong!!!!!!!
Larry Johnson has been given more than one opportunity to clean up his act. Obviously he wants out of KC. Let him go. He will never be a Derrick Thomas,Neil Smith, Priest Holmes, or Tony Gonzales. Those were class acts. Even in losing, fans stuck by their team because of them
Sorry but Derrick Thomas left his kids with no financial plan or future. Some role model he was.
My Senator..Arlen Spector...just sent me an email telling me that the recently passed "hate crimes" legislation (added to the defense appropriations bill) will not penalize or criminalize anyone in their religious or personal beliefs. Sorry. I'm not buying that Senator Spector. I'm also not voting for you in the future and my money will support your opponent. So called diversity is diversity if you agree with those who are successful in getting "laws" passed. Eternity will be another story for then true Righteousness will prevail.
the word has more than one meaning.
Good grief. People are so thin skinned. Larry could have said similar things about southerners, white males, conservative females, NASCAR fans...and he would have been lauded, but DARE to say ANYTHING NEGATIVE about homosexuals....pathetic.
I quite agree with you both. What liberals dont want their "voting public" to understand is that "hate" crime laws are basically useless and not needed. Same with the Brady Bill laws. In BOTH cases laws on the books were available to punish those who break REAL laws. But liberals spent the last 40 years keeping justice from doing what its supposed to do. Its a wonder why liberals go into lawyering...they dont want to ENFORCE laws, at least not across the board. "hate" crime laws are just a way for liberals to shut up conservatives and Christians.. And when you hear a politician say "it wont be used against Christians" you can take it to the bank that that is the prime reason for the law. Spector is a senile idiot who finally caved in to his dementia by becoming a democrat. And when they kick himto the curb...listen to Spector whine...
You hit the nail right on the head. I don't think I have ever heard it better stated. There is no justice for innocent/ or unborn with liberals.
If you were in Saudia Arabia and a person walked up to you at your house and bashed your brains in with a baseball bat because you were identified as a christian is that a hate crime? The goal of bashing your braines in is not to take your money it's to prevent others from converting to christianity. Hate crimes are designed to prevent a form of domestic terrorism. I dont understand how hate crimes remove any first amendment writes from christians unless christians want to oppress other religons or sexual orientations. Then you would have a point. By the way I am very conservative and christian but I do not feel I have to stand on someone elses shoulders.

Homosexuality is a negative corruption of humanity with no evolutionarily useful attributes Charles Darwin

You have got to be kidding, its football, its a guy thing . Grin and bear it. People get their panties in a ball about the littlest sh*t.
I thought there was an amendment freedom of speech has any one read it
Griese should be fired like IMUS .......let him beg and crawl through the politically correct liberal biased maze for a year or two He should know better! !....Johnson what can you say except stick to playing ball that's what you get paid to do ....calling people fags isn't in any play book
Let Larry Johnson out of Kansas City. Then pin the name of "presshounds" on the reporters. They thrive on making any type of misgiving by an athelete world news. Always trying to get the "tingler", huh guys?
IF HE CALLED THEM QUEERS, AND THEY ARE QUEERS, WHERE IS THE OFFENSE? IF QUEERS FIND IT OFFENSIVE WHEN THEY ARE CALLED WHAT THEY ARE, THEN CHANGE INTO SOMETHING ACCEPTABLE. TO ME, "GAY" SOUNDS WORSE THAN QUEER. GAY SOUNDS REALLY FAGALISH TO ME. IN THE 60'S THEY WERE JUST HOMO'S. IF YOU CALL A RACOON A RACOON, AND HE IS A RACOON, WHERE'S THE FOUL? GET OVER IT!
THAT WORD, IN TODAYS WORLD IS ENQUILVENIENT TO THE "N" WORD.
