Jerry Jones Locks In DeMarcus Ware With $40 Million Guaranteed

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has never been shy about spending big for superstars, and on Monday he spent very big to lock in one of the best defensive players in the league.

Linebacker DeMarcus Ware has agreed to a six-year contract extension that Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reports is worth nearly $13 million per season and almost $40 million in guaranteed money.

The contract ensures that the 27-year-old Ware will play for the Cowboys, who selected him with the 11th overall pick in the 2005 NFL draft, through the prime years of his career.

Ware led the league with 20 sacks last season, and after starting slowly this season while playing with a stress fracture in his left foot, he has four sacks in the last two games. Ware has never missed a game in his five-year NFL career

Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said of Ware, "I've been lucky to be around a lot of good ones. He's at the top of the class, and it doesn't take long to call the roll. He's an all-around player, and he plays the run well, too. That's what you really like about him."

Now Jones has spent enough to ensure that Ware will be leading the Cowboys' defense for years to come.
