According to WTVF-TV, court documents filed Friday in Nashville identify Clover Lee as the mother of the child, whose age and name were not given.
An attorney for the woman said a paternity test is being done.
Police said McNair was shot to death on July 4 in a Nashville condo by his mistress, who then turned the gun on herself.
McNair's estate, valued at $19.6 million, is currently being divided among his widow and four sons.
Lee's attorney David Pitre released the following statement:
On behalf of my client, today we have filed a claim for paternity and heirship in the Steven L. McNair estate actions which have been previously opened in both Tennessee and Mississippi. We expect that questions of paternity and heirship will soon be conclusively answered by DNA testing which is currently being conducted. The pleadings filed are self-explanatory, and out of concern for the privacy and well-being of my minor child client, as well as the McNair family, we will have no further comment on the matter. We request that the media and other interested parties respect our client's privacy and refrain from contacting her or her family.

Only one?
It just goes to show you we really never know anyone. It's not gold-digging when you talk about the cost of raising a child. Give the woman a break. It would seem that the late Steve McNair had his indiscretions (he without sin cast the first stone) and fair is fair. At least she didn't go on the Maury show and make mockery out of this. Although...they would have the DNA test results by now.
As to the attorney and Ms. Lee, you feel that it best to keep the situation with you and this alledged child of Mr. McNair be kept a secret, then you should have done that. Now the world and your child will know what a home wrecker you are. The world is not concerned with you or this child, but with the WORLD KNOWN FAMILY of the late Steve McNair. She's grieving enough about her husband's death and how it happened as well as her 4 sons that was never hidden or questioned. LEAVE THIS POOR FAMILY ALONE AND STOP BEING A GOLD DIGGER! GET A LIFE!
You've got to be kidding. Steve McNair is another example of a middle aged moron who has had his butt kissed by the NFL and the WORLD, who obviously had no regard for his marriage, his family, or the large number of women he took advantage of just by using his "celebrity" status. If this is his child, she needs to be compensated. No one gets away without child support any more unless you are a fugitve. You are a moron.
Sometimes when the poopetrator dies, all of the ghosts come out of the closet. He's responsible if he is the father. If he is the father we will all find out. Simple as that. Why would his wife be hurt any more than where he was found dead?
His wife has two sons and another woman had two sons by Mr. Mcnair before he ws married. Not to throw stones but his transgression are long in dealing with other women before and after he was married. Bless his children to understand their father. He did support them in his life. I hear now that his estate is caring for his mother, wife and all 4 sons. If this child is proven his then the child may be able to benefit as well. Doesn't make the mother a gold-digger to want a fair share to raise their child with.
HEY, LEAVE THAT WOMAN ALONE, WHEN SHE IS TRYING TO GET SETTLEMENT FOR HER CHILD. LEAVE NO CHILD BEHIND IN THIS CASE. STEVE ENJOYED THE HONEY NOW IS TIME TO PAY THE MONEY. CASE AND POINT THESE WERE TWO CONSENTING ADULTS THAT CHOSE TO WEAR NO PROTECTION TO SEX AND HERE IS THE RESULTS OF IT.
Seriously, did someone write "the WORLD KNOWN FAMILY of the late Steve McNair?" I'm an avid follower of the NFL and I don't know Steve McNair's family so I seriously doubt the world did.Ridiculous...
The homewrecker was Mr. McNair who couldn't keep it in his pants.
AMEN!!!
I doubt that he "fathered" the child. He may be biologically; but I don't think that qualifies as "father", head of household.
A-hole anybody can father a child but it takes a man to be a daddy
Hey Bob....if he biologically fathered a child, he is the father. No one said he had to be the head of household. There's no DNA test for that.
HEY....it remains to be seen whether or not he fathered this child. If he did, she is entitled to a share of his inheritance unless he SPECIFICALLY left her out with terminology designed to do exactly that. Even with this terminology, some lawyer will pursue this claim. But come on, his family is not WORLD KNOWN...that's just too funny!!!
Scumbag and common...two words to sum up McNair.
MY MY MY, THE TRUTH HURT. SORRY MCNABB FAMILY. STEVE WAS A HOE
SORRY. MCNAIR FAMILY
gee there's a surprise......
Wait, there may be more. In sports there are more
players fathering children per capitia than any
other hosehold!
Steve McNair left no will, so earlier this year, in July, a Nashville probate judge ruled that his wife would oversee his estate. She listed herself and her two sons - Tyler and Trenton McNair - as heirs.
Since that time, in September, McNair's two eldest sons, Steven L. McNair Jr. and Steven O'Bryan McNair from relationships (plural) before he was married, have gone to court separately seeking shares of the estate.
That's what happens when you die intestate (without a will), the courts get to decide, and if this paternity test is conclusive, then this child would also have a legitimate case. Why the insults? The same law that applies to you or me applies to a star quarterback with a lot of money.
