Browns Contacted FBI Over Threats to Braylon Edwards

Braylon EdwardsBraylon Edwards' stay in Cleveland came to an unceremonious end -- he was accused of assaulting someone outside a local night club, then traded to the Jets two days later.

The alleged assault incident's been somewhat brushed aside to this point, but it may have been more serious than it sounded initially. According to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, the team contacted the FBI because of fears about Edwards' safety.

"They were concerned regarding that incident," FBI Special Agent Scott Wilson said. "We had some conversations with the Browns about possible threats."

Wilson added that there has been no investigation into the threats.

The Plain-Dealer was the first to report on Edwards' alleged run-in, quoting Edward Givens, who works as a promoter, as saying that Edwards punched him in the face. Givens said that it was because Edwards "has a problem with LeBron [James]" and Givens is a friend of James'.

Edwards did not comment on the report and no charges have been filed.

In his first game with the Jets last Monday, Edwards made five catches for 64 yards and one touchdown -- his second-best statistical game of the year, behind a six-catch, 92-yard effort at Denver in Week 2.
