NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Shortly before former NFL quarterback Steve McNair's mistress killed him and then herself, he recorded a public service announcement that urges young people thinking about suicide to call a hotline and "live to see better days."The Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities shelved the announcement after McNair's July 4 death, and it never aired. The state released three versions of it to The Associated Press this week in response to a public records request.
In them, McNair says, "Each year too many young people are taking their own lives. So if you're feeling really down and have even thought about suicide, call 1-800-273-TALK, and live to see better days."
Post-production work was under way on 10-, 15-, and 30-second versions when McNair died.
Last year, Tennessee received a $1.5 million federal grant to help prevent suicide among young people. The Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network reports that suicide is the third leading cause of death for those ages 15 to 24, and about a third of Tennessee counties have suicide rates that exceed the national average.
Police investigating McNair's death concluded his 20-year-old mistress, Sahel Kazemi, had been "spinning out of control" in the days leading up to the shooting.
She had seen another young woman leaving the condominium where she and McNair were found dead. She was worried about money. She was arrested for DUI. She bought a gun and told a co-worker she was thinking about "ending it."
Family and friends described Kazemi as a sweet young woman who did not have it in her to kill someone and would not have wanted to kill herself.
When her family visited her in Nashville in May to celebrate her birthday, they said she was very happy and planning to move in with McNair. She thought he was in the final stages of a divorce from his wife of 12 years.
But she painted a different picture of the relationship less than two months later when she confided in a customer she met at the restaurant where she worked as a waitress.
Vera Mosley Buckner, of Decatur, Ala., said Kazemi told her she was in love with McNair, but he had recently started acting like he didn't want to spend time with her.
"'I don't know what to do,'" Buckner remembers her saying.

Wow! What a gem of a guy!
He had a pretty wife and children, a full-time mistress, and miscellaneous druggy girlfriends.
Of course he didn't want teens to commit suicide.
Then, he wouldn't be able to boink them.

I used to see him out partying in Nashville with hot chicks all the time while he was married. On more than one occasion he bought the whole bar a shot at this place called LOSERS' that George Straits manager owns. Seems like he was there every time I was and I remember his mistress being there with him sometimes.

Very unfortunate that anyone commits suicide, let alone takes anyone else with them!!
There is help but unfortunately 'most medications for depression' can also make you suicidal and it seems that a lot of 'mental health' people want to 'push' these meds on you.
I have been takign medication for years for anxiety and now suddenly I am being told (and I feel it is because of all these high profile deaths of abuse of prescription drugs)that I shouldn't be on this!!! I have tried other meds for depression (only to have soooooo many side effects that I could not take them).
The med I am on has helped with the anxiety and I don't feel any side effects whatsoever........so why would someone even want to change my meds except that they can????????

The more I learn about McNair, the perception of "image and reality" becomes even more glaring. This guy was walking hypocrasy. I can't think of a public image, and there are many, who said one thing and existed in a completely opposite world. In one breath he preached against suicide and with his next breath he was fostering a lifestyle and relationship condusive to suicide. Recent reports indicate he was paying the rent on a Condo for, yet another mistress. What a mess of a human being and no wonder he is dead...

This explains alot about the fall of Vince Young. McNair was his Mentor????
Why can't the black community GET IT ?
When you allow your culture to GLORIFY THE SEEDY AND SELFISH SIDES OF LIFE..........
THIS IS WHAT YOU GET.
VINCE YOUNG could've gone a different direction.

I've found this murder most profound. Not only did she pop the guy once in the head, but she turned around to empty the clip. Well at least McNair can hear the angels singing.

This is in response to the last comment By "Obamathefool" who is obviously a racist. First by that very disrespectful email name you have, hate is still alive and well in your sick little heart. Why do you have to make this McNair issue about race? He's a person first, and a man next. Many high profile men as well as men in general have lived lives of lies and misconceptions. Let's not forget about all of the politicians and even evangelicals who profess to be great men but living a different life behind the scenes. Jerks come in all colors, my racist friend. Yes, Mc Nair was living a foul life and it got him killed but the only ones I feel sory for is his wife, children and perhaps you for your ignorance and narrow mindedness which will keep you living under a rock until you figure out that we are all people and we are all here together. All colors, all types, all religions, jerks, buttholes, good people and bad. That's just the way it is. Get use to it!

What has the Black community to do with the deaths of Steve McNair or with Vince Young? I suppose THE PERFECT WHITE COMMUNITY doesn't have suicides or murders? Oh, I guess they're TOO BUSY TRYING TO KEEP ALL THE MACKENZIE PHILLIPS, DADDY DAUGHTER SEXUAL RELATIONSHIPS FROM OPRAH; and trying to take over a world which America can't afford.
