Alienated Raiders assistant coach Randy Hanson told the Napa Valley (Calif.) Police Department that Oakland head coach Tom Cable struck him and broke his jaw during an Aug. 5 altercation, according to NFL.com's Jason La Canfora. Police have been investigating the incident, which occurred at the Raiders' training camp headquarters at the Napa Valley Marriott and sent Hanson to the hospital.FanHouse's Nancy Gay first reported that Cable had attacked Hanson during a coaches' meeting, following up a National Football Post report that Hanson had been in an altercation with an unidentified member of the Oakland staff.
Hanson's lawyer, John McGuinn, told NFL.com that the situation was "a textbook case of felony assault."
Hanson initially declined to involve himself in the investigation -- perhaps because he's still receiving paychecks from the Raiders, as NFL.com points out, despite the fact that he has not been allowed to rejoin the team since the incident occurred.
Within a couple of weeks, though, Hanson hired an attorney and turned the X-rays of his broken jaw over to Napa police, which led to the reopening of the case.
McGuinn told La Canfora that Hanson was just one of several people that police had interviewed, a list that included Cable and three other Raiders defensive coaches.
"Randy answered the detective's questions, but we have no idea whether charges will be coming," McGuinn said. "That will strictly be determined by the police and the DA's office. We have no input. He just answered questions."
La Canfora also reports that several Oakland players have contacted Hanson for help prior to games. McGuinn told La Canfora that the players somehow provided Hanson with a team laptop and called him before their final preseason game and the Week 1 Monday night game versus San Diego asking for "tips."
The NFL has said the matter is under league investigation, but has yet not made any formal decision.

Ah...the Raiders. When your number one fans are prisoners, parolees, bail bondsmen, and defense attorneys...you might want to look in the mirror and make some changes.
BTW, that kid from Oregon gets banned for a year for punching a player, why isn't Cable banned for punching his assistant?

Just throw some money at Hanson and he will go away. He just won't work in the NFL anymore.

Tom Cable is an idiot...Period. He has received a golden opportunity and handles it by committing felony assault. It is so pathetic watching Cable act like nothing happened, and how he says that he has nothing to worry about , when you can see guilt written all over his face. The Raiders must begin hire legitimate coaches and need to stop hiring retreads (Art Shell), Wannabe's(Kiffin) and thugs (Cable), or they are just not going to grow as a team, and will continue to be a circus act. Al Davis needs to step down and let a good coach coach. Bill Cower would be a great addition to the Raiders, and left to run things his way, would get the Raiders back to respectability!

Goodell would have kicked him out of NFL forever if he had been a Dallas Head Coach. I knew he had something going on with the NE CHEATRIOTS,but maybe they're not the only ones paying off Goodell. (actually Bill Belicheat and Goodell were friends before he even became commish....explaining why he allowed the CHEATRIOTS to get away with the discraceful acts they did.)

Wow- the whole spygate thing was BS. All the teams had cameras on the sidelines, but only the Pats were busted. As coach of the Jets, even Mangini admitted he had his camera guy kicked out of Gillette for being in the wrong area. Spygate was about Gooddell showing he is a tough guy and enforcing a rule that meant nothing. He went after the top team to enforce a meaningless rule.

No, a meeting with colleagues is not football. If your boss cheap shotted you and broke your jaw would you "shut up and take a little ass kickin and go back to work"? My guess is you would be crying like a little school girl (people who talk tough anonymously like you do are usually anything but tough!).

First of all, Tom 44, not all Raider fans are losers. Some have been fans since the glory days. You obviously made a sweeping generalization of Raider fans. And you are wrong. Now the team on the other hand COULD use some help, and I agree that they have lost wayyyyyyyyyyy too many games.

First of all if Cable had a problem that bad with Hanson he should have fired him. Now he should be fired.

One can't really blame Cable. Anyone working for that egotistical maniac (Al Davis), will become a nervous wreck in no time. This is not to excuse Cable's behavior. It is intended to relay that the Raider organization is f?*&ed up from the top.
Al needs to step aside and understand that his football phylosophies (as brilliant as they once were) are no longer relevant.
Additionally, the paranoia that he instilling in his organization does nothing other than promote paralyzing tension and ineffectiveness.
