In his two-year NFL career Limas Sweed has seven catches for 69 yards. He already has three big drops. After Sweed dropped a wide-open touchdown that would have proven to be a game-clincher against the Bengals, he now has one catch for five yards this year and one drop that would have been much more important. That drop reminded everyone he also had a key drop in the AFC Championship game against the Ravens. He also dropped a bomb he should have caught against the Browns in the finale of the 2008 regular season.
That's the frustrating part of all of this. Sweed has shown that he can get open against almost anyone -- he just can't catch the easy ones. Pittsburgh had the same problem with Nate Washington early in his career, but they stuck with him until he turned into a relatively reliable No. 3 receiver. In Sweed's case the emergence of Wallace means that even if the Steelers try to work with Sweed, he will have significantly less chances than Washington had.
Sweed's already had a second and a third chance. I may be one of the few Steelers fans left who hopes that eventually he'll get another shot. At this point he has to know that the Steelers fans will not be kind if he drops one at home. His talent is too much to give up on two games into his second year, but at this point the hope is just that he develops into a No. 3 receiver, as Wallace is clearly a better option as a future starter.

Sweed plays scared. He's thinking about it too much. I think he's afraid to take a major league hit. He had the ball in the end zone and let it go when he hit the ground, as if he were trying to break his fall. He could learn a few things from Hines Ward, besides how to catch of course.

And how many drops did Nate Washington have yesterday?!! Maybe he and Limas are related. Hate to waste that draft pick, but I think his time is up. Don't know if there are any chances left for him.

look like sweed and holmes can not keep the ball in their hands. it look like they can only catch the hard ones. that is two week in a row that the steeler lost a three weeks in a row that the steelers lost touch downs on receiver not keeping the ball in their hands. what is it do they need to be the gamer winner or the hero to be able to keep the ball in their hands common guy just catch the ball

Its time for limas to clean out his locker and turn in his playbook. Wallace has more big play potential than sweed, plus he can actualy catch the ball! McDonald cant do any worse, plus letting sweed go would open up a spot on the roster for redman.

yeah i think his time is up, he's had three or four chances to come up with big plays and hasn't come through plus i think wallace all but has that third slot locked up. It's hard to believe coming out of texas he was labeled the next big thing being compared to likes of roy williams, just goes to show you just cause your the man at a major program doesn't mean that it's gonna carry over to the pros

Dump him now. The Steelers can't wait until he decides to catch the ball. They're already at 1-2 and now is not the time to stick with somebody who can't catch. We have got to get back on the winning track. Maybe you have to sacrifice a little speed for a good reliable receiver. Wallace or McDonals is a good fit. It's not going to get any easier. Baltimore is already up 2 games.

apparently you haven't seen his college highlight videos!!!!!! People don't just happen into pros. he is there for a reason. One thing I do agree with you though, he does need to move on to team that's going to let him play ball, like I know he can play ball.

I have to say how pathetic most of you are. The guy is a #4 WR who has dropped three balls in his young career and you want him gone. Route running and speed are a lot harder to learn than to catch a ball. Also you can't teach size. His catches will come. How about backing him rather than hating him. You guys are prob the same people that wanted Bradshaw gone, thought Polamalu was a bust his first year when ever ball went through his hands, wanted Bettis to retire when he slowed down then wore his jersey again when he revived his career, and booed Santanio Holmes his first year whenever he dropped all those balls. Prob the same fans that walked out of the 2008 Jacksonville game early then when the Steelers mounted their 31-29 comeback lose we're trying to get back in but were denied. Prob the same people that wanted Fleury traded from the Pens when Conklin was doing well. Very pathetic.

If he were a white receiver, would there really be a story about how many balls he's dropped? There are a few White receivers, making more money, who have dropped a few more balls...please feel free to do a story on them as well, re: such a ridiculous topic.

There are hardly any white receivers in the NFL. The few that made it got there by catching everything thrown their way. They definitely were not blessed genetically with great athletic ability and/or speed. Maybe we need some affirmative action that puts rules in place that a certain amount of players at each position in the NFL have to be white or at least implement a form of the “Rooney Rule” where white players get to try out for each position regardless of their experience or skill level. Oh I forgot those unfair quotas do not apply when whitey is the minority. Go away you blaXXX A$$ racist, it's 2009.

Its really frustrating to read articles like this. We are a very good team when we can stay consistent, but we cannot create any momentum with big drops and incomplete passes. I hope Sweed can get it in to his head that if he wants to be a part of one of the greatest professional sports franchises in history, he needs be reliable as a receiver.

Send Sweed to the practice squad. This might motivate him to catch the ball. He is taking a spot on the team. The Steelers need to bring back RB Redman to improve the running game.

he drops another key pass in the end zone to put the game out of reach he will get more than booed...that guy will have beer dumped on him exiting the field if the steelers are at home and jeff reed better get the kicking slump out of his a$$ as well. we should have won that bengals game at least by 8 or 9 points. a touchdown dropped and a field goal missed. hell that field goal could have put the game in overtime. at least ben could have rallied his guys for another overtime win.

Has anyone read about the money Tiger Woods is getting lately, I haven't seen anyone black or white complain or say its a race thing.. so why is it a race issue when it comes down to a professional football player who can't catch a ball especially with the stakes are high. Send him packing to the practice

Limas is on thin ice- this is a make it or break it year for him. Theres been some improvment this year but he's not making the plays that matter most. He simply has to cross the line and start showing some balls and catch some- or its adios!
