Despite the 353-yard, 3-touchdown torching Tony Romo gave to the Buccaneers Sunday afternoon, the Cowboys' quarterback left Tampa with a bit of a black cloud over his head -- in the form of his sprained right ankle. With the defending NFC East Champion New York Giants coming to Dallas this coming weekend, the possibility of having Romo less than healthy wouldn't bode well for the Cowboys' chances. Monday, though, they got good news. An MRI revealed no structural damage, according to the Star-Telegram. Romo has reportedly already been walking around with the aid of crutches. It doesn't sound like anything other than a minor tweak. In football terms, he's "hurt" and not "injured."
From the sounds of things, there's no reason he won't be near 100 percent come Sunday, which is great news for Dallas.
With Romo, the Cowboys amassed 462 yards of total offense, including Romo's career-high 353 yards through the air. He routinely found holes in the Buccaneer secondary and didn't turn the ball over. He made Roy Williams, Patrick Crayton and Miles Austin look like world-beaters. Without Romo, the Cowboys would be left with Jon Kitna, who turns 37 next week and was a mediocre quarterback -- career 76.6 rating -- even in his prime.
Obviously, the Giants present a much bigger problem defensively than the Bucs, so the Cowboys need to have their leader healthy and on the field. It appears they will.
