Chicago Bears Pro Bowl linebacker Brian Urlacher is likely out for the season after suffering a dislocated right wrist during the first quarter of Sunday night's Week 1 loss to the Green Bay Packers, the Chicago Tribune is reporting. The Tribune reports:
When asked about his status Monday, Urlacher said in a text message that his "season is over."For the Bears, Hunter Hillenmeyer was the next man up after Urlacher went down, and he may have to start the rest of the season in Urlacher's place. The Bears also lost starting strongside linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa to a knee injury against the Packers; it is not clear how long Tinoisamoa will be out.
He was scheduled to undergo surgery Monday morning upon the team's arrival back in Chicago from Green Bay. A dislocated bone had to be surgerically put back in.
Still, the Bears say they'll march on without their middle linebacker.
"We can't think about it,'' Bears defensive tackle Tommie Harris told the Tribune. "We just have to go with the guys we have. It's a long season. They need to get healthy and get back out there. We're going to miss them if they miss time. But that's why the guys behind them get paid just like they do.''
Urlacher had said in training camp that he was healthy and poised to have a big season, entering 2009 feeling no pain in his back or neck, which previously gave him trouble. That had Urlacher thinking he was ready to make the seventh Pro Bowl of his career. Now he is done after just one game.
Can the Bears win the NFC North without Urlacher? Tell me on Twitter @MichaelDavSmith.

Wow. What an impressive performance by Jay Cutler! Couple his over rated ability with the loss of B Erlacher and you might as well stay home and watch the team go 0-16.

Yeah... that's right. The rest of the offense is comprised of a weak O-line, two clueless wide recievers, two over-the-hill tight ends, and a running back with a fluke good season last year who won't be as good this year. Meanwhile, the defense simply isn't as good without Urlacher. The Bears' year will be a complete disaster.

TERRIBLE news! I am not a Bears fan, but I hate when star players are lost for the season. Especially after BU got in such great shape. I hope he completely recovers and has a stellar 2010 season.

Poor baby!!!! I remember Larry wilson of the then St. Louis Cardinals intercept 2 passes when he had casts on both hands. And then Wilt Chamberlain being MVP during a play off with a broken wrist. I'm a bit sick of million dollar athletes being on DL with a hangnail.

i don't know if you have every played a down of real contact football. to surgically put the dislocated bone back in place is not a hang nail. you sound like a guy who misses work because of a headache. so go ahead and challenge the toughness of a 6 time pro bowl middle linebacker. and sit back and WATCH sports.

Proud said it. I dislocated my elbow a few years ago, and it was the most painful injury I have ever had. While waiting for surgery, they gave me morphine which only took the edge off. Then I had rehab for 6 months.

I'll bet the length of time allotted to heal well enough to play depends on which bone/s is or are fractured or broken. He probably has a much tollerance for pain as anyone else but wants an arm he can still use effectively after the bones knit.

Put a cast on. Play ball. Butkus and Ditka would. Calling Jay Cutler a punk is like looking in the mirror for Brian.
