Kansas City Remains in Game Despite Terrible Offensive Showing

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley had to know his first test in the NFL was going to be a large one, seeing as how his team was heading into Baltimore to take on a Ravens team that was just one game short of the Super Bowl a season ago.

Add in the fact his starting quarterback, Matt Cassel, was inactive due to injury, and, well, it shouldn't be much of a surprise that the Chiefs have struggled mightily on offense. For the opening 28 minutes of the first half, the Chiefs were limited to zero first downs and no offensive points, yet somehow remained in the game thanks to a bend-but-don't-break defense and a blocked punt recovered in the end zone by Jon McGraw.

The Chiefs finally started to move the ball on their final drive of the first half, picking up three first downs before allowing the clock run out, and headed into the break down by three.

Meanwhile, for Baltimore, second-year quarterback Joe Flacco is 16 for 25 for 175 yards and a touchdown, a 3-yard pass to Willis McGahee.

UPDATE: Following a 70-yard interception return early in the third quarter by linebacker Derrick Johnson, Brodie Croyle connected with Dwayne Bowe on a two-yard touchdown pass to give Kansas City its first lead of the day.
