The Titans come out of an opening game loss with some problems to fix--like tweaking a pass rush that fell apart in the fourth quarter--some problems to chalk up to bad luck--like Rod Bironas missing two field goals--and the frustration of an overtime loss. But in that loss, there were signs that the Titans' offense could be better in 2009. Kerry Collins threw for 244 yards against the league's top pass defense in 2008, and Kenny Britt showed that Tennessee finally has a solid receiver to line up on the other side of Justin Gage.
When Nate Washington's hamstring fully heals, Tennessee may have three quality wideouts for the first time since, well, they were in Houston? Britt showed he's more ready than the average rookie receiver. His four catch, 85-yard day was a better day than any Titans No. 2 receiver had last year. He showed that he understands the importance of running proper routes and he clearly showed he has the size and speed to get deep.
But even with the improved depth that Britt brings, it's worth speculating, as the Tennessean has, as to whether the Titans should be interested in recently released wide receiver Bobby Wade. Wade actually was a Titan early in his career before heading to Minnesota, where he was a starter until the day he was dumped. Wade isn't anything spectacular, but he is a slot receiver who's best role is to move the chains. He could patrol the short zones on third down if Bo Scaife's injury sidelines him for longer than a few week while also giving Tennessee dependable depth at a position that drops off pretty significantly after the top three.
And since the Titans have already played their opener, they can sign Wade without worrying about owing him the entire year's salary as a vested veteran. Veterans who play in an NFL opener are guaranteed their entire contract for that season.

Kenny Britt looks great! I think, however, he
had time to make a defensive play on the interception. He will learn that quickly. One
pass he did not get to. Later on the same kind of
play he broke hard to outside and made the catch.
The Titans should use the pass to set up the run.
They will be awesome! Why did the Titans choose
not to win the game in regulation. Kerry had
the team score a touchdown in less time in the
first half. The best time to throw is when the
other team does not expect it. Too conservative.
Play to win. Do not play not to lose.
