A final resolution to the Michael Vick issue could come as soon as this weekend, and two sources close to the situation told FanHouse that they expect NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to reinstate Vick immediately, making him eligible to play in the Eagles' first regular-season game on Sept. 13 in Charlotte against the Carolina Panthers.ESPN.com reported earlier Wednesday that Goodell is expected to make a decision about further discipline on Vick by Saturday so that the Eagles could take it into account when setting their final 53-man roster. One of the sources confirmed that report, and both said they believe the decision will be a full reinstatement that suspended Vick for no regular season games.
In late July, shortly after Vick completed a two-year prison term for dogfighting crimes, Goodell announced a conditional reinstatement that would allow Vick to sign with an NFL team and play in that team's final two preseason games. Vick signed with the Eagles on Aug. 14 and played last Thursday against Jacksonville in Philadelphia -- he's also slated to play Thursday when Philadelphia visits the Jets.
At that time, Goodell said he would make a final decision on further discipline for Vick no later than Week 6 of the regular season. That allowed him the leeway to make the decision sooner, which it appears he will. Since Vick has behaved himself since the initial ruling was handed down, Goodell has little or no reason to hand out further discipline. In addition, the Plaxico Burress case -- in which Goodell announced that Burress would face no NFL discipline once his prison sentence ends in 2011 -- kind of set a precedent for this. Vick already served an NFL suspension while in prison, and if Goodell reinstates him for Week One, then he'll face no further discipline beyond his own prison term.

R.Goodell is a spineless bastard of a man. Minimal Public lashing? NFL is a joke. The league has more law breakers than congress. Poor example is being set and each and every one of you know it. Football is a game! A GAME! Quit being selfish and stand up and make a stand. Everytime you see a little kid, think about what they might be thinking about this example R.Goodell has allowed. Kill a dog?...it's okay, smoke marajuana?, it's okay, beat up your girl? run over a guy while you were drunk? been arrested 5 or more times....it goes on and on.
Support your local sports team,ie:high school, college, pop warner...etc. Screw the NFL.

Wow, okay, lol. I've never been a Vick fan or supporter (considering I'm a Buccaneers fan XD), but the dude's done his time, suffered enough lost money and public bashing. Let him do what he loves to do, Dungy'll keep him straight and I'm sure he's learned plenty anyway.

Vick was reinstated with the provision that he be suspended for 6 games. The commisssioner is sending the wrong message if he reinstates him for game one. Vicks crime was egregious. Any one who gets their thrills and entertainment by slaughtering and torturing dogs is a sick individual.Vick lied to the commissioner, lied to the Falcon's owner, lied to his coaches and team mates, lied to the media lied to the fans the police and FBI. What a guy ! just what the NFL needs for it's cover boy.Vick is sorry for his crimes, sorry he got caught. If he didn't get caught he would still be doing it.He deserves another chance; do the dogs he killed get another chance.Show some backbone commissioner !Pete Rose was suspended for life for a far less egregious act. At least baseball has moral standards. Vicks jersey is a big seller only goes to show that the fans get what they deserve and that Vick has a lot of sick company.

Get your facts straight. The Goodell suspended Vick and said he would make a final decision BY WEEK 6, not that Vick would be suspended for the first 6 games.
The crimes for which he was convicted are heinous crimes, agreed. But he was convicted, sentenced and served his time as set forth by a judge. The crimes, no matter how heinous, are not violations of the NFL rules, other than the rules that state a player will not act in a manner detrimental to the NFL. Goodell apparently feels that the time served, and also being suspended during that time, has been enough and now Vick can rejoin the league. I agree with Goodell.
As for baseball, I feel Pete Rose should be reinstated and allowed to be voted into the Hall of Fame. However, the rule he broke is an actual MLB rule the requires a lifetime ban. Rediculous? Yes. But it is baseballs rule. Hopefully, at some point in time Pete Rose will get to the Hall, but only time will tell.

the difference is that Pete Rose NEVER admitted that he did it...he kept the lie going until a few years ago..If he would have manned up and admitted it then maybe they would have let him in....

and the commissioner did show backbone...everyone is making it out like he killed 500 people. he never physically killed a dog himself, you could see wat happened with donte stallworth (evn though house arrest for five years is getting off easy). vick did his time in a federal prison and on house arrest for two years combined. let the guy come back and do wat he does best

Justin,
NO,Get over yourself. God forgives him? Are you kidding? Does Obama know you have a direct line to God? Does God really think it's a good idea for M.Sick to go out and prove to the world that it's okay to harm his animals by torturing and drowning and getting slammed to the ground until it dies and raped and hung and shot in the head after all that...do 20 months of confinement with 3 meals a day...turn around to make $1.6million?
I know, M.Sick did his time....WOW! 20 months. WOW! Over 6 years of the BAD NEWS KENNEL Justin.
Guess what he did in 6 years! but he did his 20 months. God will forgive him. You are obviously the kind that believes in a God that delivers virginis to you in heaven when you die.

That's great. Run an illegal operation for YEARS. Have people on your payroll who have one job: break the law. Essentially be involved in organized crime and when caught and punished, serve 2 years for willfully breaking the law and then get your old job back. Good deal. Amazing how the talented and rich can get away with anything...
