Vince Young's role for the 2009 season will be the same one he had in 2008 -- as Kerry Collins' backup, as Jeff Fisher confirmed that he has held off Patrick Ramsey's challenge."He's always been our No. 2 quarterback and he'll remain that,'' coach Jeff Fisher said. "He's done a nice job most of the time on the field in games as well as on the practice field.''If you want to be precise, Young hasn't always been the Titans' No. 2 quarterback. It's a new role that he only fell into during the 2008 season. And the fact that Fisher had to reiterate that he has held onto the job is another sign of how Young's star has fallen in Nashville.
But this preseason has been a step forward for Young. He has been inconsistent, but he has showed decent accuracy and the ability to move the chains -- he just needs to cut down on the turnovers after throwing three interceptions and losing a fumble in four games this preseason.
The decision to keep Young as No. 2 may also mean that Patrick Ramsey is on thin ice. The Titans could carry three quarterbacks, but there's a chance that they could opt to use that roster spot elsewhere. Last year the Titans carried three veteran quarterbacks (Chris Simms was No. 3), so there is a precedent for Tennessee to keep Ramsey.

*Hmmm, it seems like Mr. Young may have been off a bit with his "next black superbowl-winning QB" silliness. To be the winning QB, don't you have to be the starter first? He seems to be competing for the right to not move to the practice squad, instead of for the starting position. Maybe Tonya Harding owes Vince a favor and will have someone take out Collins?

ENOUGH OF THE YOUNG BASHING, WHAT COACH TRASHS HIS BEST PLAYER, MVP COLLEGE, AN PRO'S, YOUNG IS NOT THE REASON THE TITANS LOST IN THE SUPER BOWL, OR WHY THE TITANS DIDN'T MAKE IT TO THE AFC BIG DANCE. NO OTHER SPORT, HOLDS THE GUY ON THE BENCH, ACCOUNTABLE, FOR A LOSS.

VY is not going anywhere. Not next year, not any time. He WILL stay with the Titans and i see improvements more i see him play. He's starting to shake off the bad plays, something he really struggled with in the past, shakes them off and is playing thru small injuries, and may take a pay cut next season as rumored, but his future, his successful future, is with the Titans. Bud Adams was the one that chose him, he signs the checks, and has made it very clear, even as much as a few weeks ago, to make it clear that VY is the Titans future, the same thing Jeff Fisher has said. I dont see them drafting a QB next season, i dont see any free agents even being mentioned or out there that would be pursued to replace Collins, so VY is the future and talk of him being scrapped is absolutely absurd, stupid, and ridiculous! To think Patrick Ramsey could replace VY at back up, how many idiotic people thought that, i laughed at the notion!

Vince young is a joke. After a few more years as a back up QB, he will be out of the league!
