Roy Williams Is Day-To-Day With Shoulder Contusion

Roy WilliamsCowboys wide receiver Roy Williams suffered a shoulder contusion at the end of Thursday's practice according to team officials.

On Friday, team officials said X-rays of Williams' shoulder were negative and revealed no fracture. Williams will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis.

Initially the Cowboys originally believed Williams may have broken his collarbone.

Williams did not return a text message seeking comment Thursday night.

Williams was injured in a collision with cornerback Orlando Scandrick at the goal line. Williams down on the ground for several minutes before leaving the field, and he yelled in anger as he walked to the locker room, according to the Associated Press.

Losing Williams for any extended period of time would hurt the Cowboys passing game. They expect him to become their No. 1 passing threat after cutting Terrell Owens in the offseason.

Williams was acquired from Detroit at last year's trade deadline for three draft picks. He during his time in Dallas and never developed a chemistry with quarterback Tony Romo. Williams had just 19 catches with the Cowboys last season.

Part of the problem was that Romo missed Williams' first three games in Dallas with a broken pinkie. But during Dallas' offseason workouts and the first month of training camp, Romo and Williams both said they had built a better relationship and were confident things would be better in 2009.

It's undetermined who will move into the starting lineup if Williams is out. Patrick Crayton is Dallas' other starter, and the Cowboys are high on backup wideouts Sam Hurd and Miles Austin.
