Well, the new kicker for one night, anyway. With the team's regular kicker, Shayne Graham, out of the lineup due to injury, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco filled in and not only booted the opening kickoff of the second half inside the 10-yard line, he also kicked an extra point following the game's only touchdown -- a 24-yard strike from J.T. O'Sullivan to Chris Henry -- in Cincinnati's 7-6 win on Thursday night. Give Ocho credit; he drilled the extra point, almost as if he had been doing it his entire career.
Video after the jump.
Just in case you're wondering, the most recent position players to actually make a kick in a regular season game include Mark Simoneau, who made an extra point for the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2005 season, and Wes Welker, then playing for the Dolphins, who kicked a field goal and an extra point in a 2004 game against New England. There was also Doug Flutie converting the first successful drop kick since 1941 in Week 17 of the '05 season.

Well, well, well,we finally know who gives the orders in Cincinnati,Ochocinco. Marvin Lewis might
as well quit as head coach. To put a man in as
placekicker who will NEVER be a kicker is absurd.
Preseason games are not a joke to the many men
fighting for a job.Only to see this clown telling
his head coach to "Put me In" and the coach bowing to his commands. This is discusting

Dude, your an idiot...the kicker had a strained hamstring and is the only kicker on their roster...why risk a pull that might affect him in the regular season if you have someone else on the roster who can kick? Stop hating on Chad and recognize that despite all of the antics - which the purists hate - and the whining - which I agree with the hate directed his way for, he needs to shut the hell up and ball - he has actual football talent. Apparently he can do more than just catch the ball and you hate him for it...maybe you hate him for another reason and have the decency and class not to print it, i don't know...but this I do know...don't hate!

It's a preseason game. I wouldn't care if they put him at QB for the entire game!

I guess some people are just jealous and that is all there is to it. The Bengals won the game by just one point. Without Chad kicking the extra point the game would have been tied at the end of regulation and the game would have went into overtime. Nobody wants overtime in the preseason because somebody can get hurt and that would be the end of their season if not career over an overtime game in the preseason. I know you want to say go for the 2 point conversion but if they miss it then like I said earlier the game would have went into overtime. People like to say Chad isn't a team player but like I said his extra point was the difference. People say we have free speech in this country but all that does is just show how may stupid people we have in this country. Look Henry no one is paying you to say stupid things, if somebody was paying you to say stupid things then more power to you.

Leave poor Henry alone.
Wow, honestly. You guys DO know what pre-season is, right? It is about people vying for positions in the NFL. Letting a WR kick, even in pre-season, is so illogical when you've most likely got a 2nd-string kicker. HELLO.

So what, Chad can kick the ball. Why did that upset you. Next time you try to make a point, check the roster.

I think it's awesome! Can I draft Ochocinco as a kicker on my fantasy team? (And anyone who's been watching "Hard Knocks" knows that C.O. is a superb athlete.)

I'm sure any Chiefs, Browns, Lions, or Texans fans would be offended. (Even though that might not cross most people's minds.) I would have to say, though, that watching any team, regardless of their record, is fun for me.

Kay-Chan obviously the Bengals didn't have a back up kicker on the roster that is why they had to use Chad. Most teams may have an additional kicker on their roster during the preseason but since a team can carry so many players on their rosters and the Bengals have so needs they probably use the roster spot they normally use for an extra kicker to have another position player to help with the offense or defense since Shayne Graham their regular kicker will make the roster with no problem the Bengals felt why have a player on their roster the know will not make the team. Why do you humans speak before you check and recheck your facts.

Maybe it's just because I've never liked the guy, but I will NEVER call him Chad Ochocinco. It was just because of that fake namepatch a few years ago that he started being called that. He's turned his team (and to some extent the league) into a circus

Way to go Chad, we knew you had great talents and being able to kick off, and split the uprights for an extra point just shows how athletic you are.
Let the haters hate on because thats what they do, it is what it is.
