The future of suspended quarterback Michael Vick could become clearer. On Tuesday, Vick's agent, Joel Segal, and adviser, former NFL coach Tony Dungy, expressed that a NFL team could sign him soon, maybe this week.
Segal confirmed a Washington Post report that five teams are interested in Vick.
"Yeah, very optimistic," Segal told ESPN radio 980-AM in Washington. "It's not a matter of if, its when and Mike's excited of the opportunity the commissioner gave him and he's ready to go help a club win."
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell conditionally reinstated Vick a week after he completed a 23-month sentence for running a dogfighting ring.
Even if an NFL team signs Vick, he's not eligible to play until the final two preseason games, yet can participate in practices and meetings. Vick will have his playing status for the regular season reviewed by Goodell by Week 6 (Oct. 18-19).
Segal said he and Vick expected a slow process, but now there's a feeling something might happen. Segal was in Redskins camp on Tuesday and ruled out the Redskins. Several other teams have said no on Vick.
Yet, Dungy said at least 12 coaches have contacted him regarding the quarterback.
"I recommended to maybe a dozen guys, I think that [Vick] has changed as a person," Dungy said Tuesday morning on ESPN Radio's Mike and Mike morning show. "I think he realizes what he did and the lifestyle he had wasn't conductive to not only playing well, but also a detriment to a lot of young people."
There is a thought that Vick might have to change from quarterback to running back. With several NFL teams using the Wildcat offense, which utilizes a quick ball handler who could also pass in certain situations, Vick has been linked to those teams.
But Segal said Vick is mainly a quarterback and doesn't expect a position change.
"Just wants to get back and run around," Segal said of Vick.

I would guess the Raider's or Jaguar's, or another team not on the list.
ITS CAROLINA, BET THE HOUSE
If Vick's agent said that there was no chance the Redskins would sign Vick, and the Redskins themselves said that they had no interest in him TWICE! then why are the Redskins in second place in the voting for who is most likely to sign Vick?
Cause their all abunch of idiots. I say Vikes
I seriously think Michael Vick should be with the 49er's. The Niners need a QB very badly and should come off they're high horse. Vick deserves another chance. He's paid his debt and the added 6 month suspension should be enough.
i am "NOT" a vikings fan but they would be stupid if they didn't try to sign VICK ......the pack could use him in the backfield
vick should not get a chance to play, did the dogs he killed get a second chance no I guess not
Is the CEO of the 49ers the woman who is an animal rights activist and active in animal rescue? I can't remember if it's the 49ers or the Steelers. I read where she said there was NO WAY they'd tolerate him on their team.
I don't see any sense that could made of the skins signing vick.We have plenty of players to run the wild cat,If that's what everybody is thinking.Twaan makes more sense at Q.B.,and we already pay him.pull Jason and put El under center,Tana,Devin Thomas, and C.P,(D.Hall might figure in there somewhere) W/Cooley and Fred Davis both in.Defend That?!Let a team that is desperate sign him.the Skins are very talented on both sides of the ball,we only need to gel on offense.HTTR
I don't want to see him play at all, for any team.
He absolutely should NOT play. There's something fundamentally wrong with a person who would do what he did, especially not needing the money. There's definitely something not right with him. No wonder there's so many thugs in the NFL when teams will resign a player no matter what he's done.
why not, he paid his debt to society so he should be allowed to play
I believe if ANYONE signs him, my guess would be the Raiders. Thay always do. But I will have to see it to believe it that anyone is interested.
Who have the raiders ever done this with? They get a bad wrap when the don't take on criminals. Look at teams like the 49'ers who had a criminal owner or the Bengals that make a habit of taking criminals.
Perhaps Tony Dungy should have spent more time mentoring his son.
Can someone please tell me about what happen to the roethlisberger rape case. Proof that there is discrimination still in this country. Kobe Bryant (Black) they were all over it for months...Roethlisberger espn wouldnt even cover it...explain that to me...
hail to the redskins
You are a heartless idiot
cohara1950,
your a dumbsh*t, Thank god you've never had a child w/ problems Mr. perfect. that's a pretty low blow. His son has nothing to do w/ this. Obviously your a moron. If you'd said that about me I'd hunt your ass down. I'm a veteran of foreign war, vet of USMC, and people like you and the right disgust me, makes me wish I'd never defended your rights. Shut the F*ck up?
That is not your call. You don't know what relationship Mr. Dungy had with his son. You are foolish to suggest he didn't spend quality time with him. His life could've taken on a different path and he became confused. That does'nt mean Mr. Dungy can't help another person in need. After all, that is the Christian thing to do. You people are so judgemental...sit back and chill.
NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE this is where professional athletes get paid lots of money to perform ON and OFF the field. Michael vick is a LOW LIFE and should be barred from returning. Any team who would have him is a disgrace and shows that win at any cost attitude. They should be ashamed of themselves.
