Plenty of first-round draft picks are still holding out from NFL training camps. For one team (Buffalo), a preseason game will be played Sunday night, and their first-round pick is still unsigned. The Denver Broncos appear to have avoided such a quandary with their top selection. The Denver Post reports that the team has agreed to terms with running back Knowshon Moreno, a first-round selection out of Georgia.
The Post reports that the deal is for five years. Financial terms were not disclosed.
It was important for Moreno to get to camp as soon as possible. The Broncos have a few days of practice left before their preseason opener Friday at San Francisco. If Moreno isn't ready to go, veterans LaMont Jordan and Correll Buckhalter will get the bulk of the carries in that game, and thus a head start on Moreno.
The youngster will be trying to win the starting job as a rookie. If he shows up in good shape and catches up on what he's missed, Moreno should be considered the favorite.
It remains to be seen whether this will start an avalanche of first-round picks signing contracts. Teams like Buffalo, Green Bay, New Orleans, and Jacksonville, among others, certainly hope so.

There is no way that 2008 pre-season #1 Georgia could have had the number one drafted quarterback and the number one drafted running back and still post a dismal three loss season. One of them was carrying the other to apparent greatness. The other will be a bust in the NFL. Guess we'll have to watch and see which one.
