Vince Young has had a lot of ups and downs in his football career (mostly ups at Texas, mostly downs in Tennessee) but he's always remained one thing: So it's no surprise that when he sat down with Esquire (you can read it here or wait for the mag to come out in a few days) for a reflection-filled and future-gazing interview that he discussed his potential and his hopes for his career as an NFL quarterback. But even despite his past success, his prognostication for the years to come seem a touch high.
I don't know when I'll start again. But I will be the next black quarterback to win a Super Bowl. And I will be in the Hall of Fame.See? That's kind of awesome that he has such
He needs to work on the first part of his statement (becoming a starting quarterback) before he focuses on the next part (a Super Bowl-winning quarterback), much less making it to freaking Canton.
Not saying he shouldn't shoot for the stars or anything, it's just that, sometimes, baby steps are good too.
But then there's also this little problem: Young's not exactly the only black quarterback in the NFL. There's David Garrard (on a much improved Jaguars team), Donovan McNabb (the Eagles were almost there last year) and/or Michael Vick (who could end up beating him on a Wildcat-style technicality), to name a few.
My point, of course, isn't that Young won't be the next black QB to win a Super Bowl, it's just that, well, there are already lots of good African-American signal callers in the NFL and, as everyone knows, there's only one Super Bowl winner every year.

I am a die hard Raiders fan and even I think your loco . Al davis has to give up the power for us to win again. It will be Donovan Mcnabb , with Desean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin and Westbrook they will be fun to watch this year.

So doesn't Vince get to set goals, use affirmations, put the laws of attraction in motion? it's not that rare - Everything begins in the mind and has to be declared - his problem is he declared them out loud and allowed people like you to take shots at him.

No the problem is he's a bad quarterback with no work ethic. The next black quarterback to win a super bowl is Dononvan Mcnabb. He is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL regardless of race.

There's nothing wrong with setting goals for yourself. Instead of telling Esquire about them, VY should of written it down on a piece of paper and taped it to his wall. Putting it out there like that is just asking to be mocked.

He has a better chance of testing positive for steroids/drugs, getting caught up in a paternity suit, getting arrested, or shooting himself in the leg. How many times has Tom Brady said " Im going to be the next white QB to win the superbowl." oh never, thats because its not OK to be white...

Maybe because Tom Brady and other white quaterbacks have always been given the opportunity while Vince young and other black QB's have had to deal with ignorant bigots like you.

Dude I'm not saying racism isn't out there but give me a break. You can say a lot of things but dont tell me black people aren't given a chance on the football field. Remember, you are calling people that reply to this article racist biggots but it was Vince that dropped the race issue on the table. You don't ever see Tom Brady say he wants to be the first white qb to win 5 superbowls. Vince needs to prove he belongs in the NFL before he talks about winning the big dance.

Wow---what a stupid, bleeding heart comment. Vince was babied all the way through his stay at Texas. I know---I was there. I love the guy, but you're such a dinosaur!
