Roddy White Isn't in Camp, but Is Getting Ready to Play

Roddy WhiteRoddy White may be holding out from Atlanta Falcons' training camp, but he's not just lying on the couch eating Doritos.

White, until he and his agent Jonathan Feinsod can work out a new contract with the Falcons, will be working out on his own about three hours down the road from Flowery Branch in Birmingham, Alabama.

In 2008, White set career-highs with 88 receptions and 1,382 yards receiving. Heading into the 2009 season, White feels he deserves to be paid like the best receivers in the NFL. He's missed five days of training camp thus far to prove his point; each day missed costing the pro-bowl receiver $15,888.

All is quiet from Feinsod as he continues to refrain from commenting about the status of negotiations, but Falcons General Manager Thomas Dimitroff continually says that talks are moving forward and should be resolved soon. Head Coach Mike Smith just wants White in camp, "I really can't give you anything of substance to that deal. All I can say is the guy you're talking about is one of our best 53 players, and as a coach, you want to get all of your best players here. Hopefully he will be here soon."

White does have company in Birmingham. He's working out with a personal trainer and catching passes from his former college quarterback at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, Darrell Hackney. Hackney, who isn't just donating his time, was cut by the Denver Broncos in early April and is using his time in Birmingham to get ready for the United Football League.
