Back in 2005, Heath Miller slid down draft boards because of concerns about a sports hernia that had needed surgery after his senior season. That proved to be an opportune injury for the Steelers, as it meant Miller, the top tight end in that year's draft class, slid to the 30th pick in the draft. And it proved to be a red herring of an injury, as it hasn't bothered Miller during his four-year NFL career, until now.
Miller had to have surgery for a sports hernia during the offseason, and will be limited during the first couple of weeks of training camp, although coach Mike Tomlin said he will be fully ready for the start of the season. Miller's injury and a broken toe for center Justin Hartwig appear to be the most serious injuries of what is a pretty healthy Steelers' team heading into camp. The most serious injury is running back Stefan Logan's foot sprain, which means he will start camp on the physically unable to perform list. Logan's uphill climb for roster spot just got a little steeper.
Maybe even more importantly, Casey Hampton has showed up in shape for his contract year and completed the run test. A year ago Hampton showed up out of shape and was placed on the PUP list until he lost some weight.
