The Washington Redskins landed Kentucky defensive end Jeremy Jarmon in Thursday's NFL supplemental draft, coughing up a third-round pick in 2010 for the former Wildcat.Jarmon was ruled ineligible for the 2009 NCAA season after testing positive for a banned substance in February, then losing an appeal of that decision in May.
In three years at Kentucky, Jarmon recorded 121 tackles and 17 sacks. He had his most productive campaign in 2007, notching 57 tackles and nine sacks.
Standing 6-foot-3, and with decent speed, Jarmon's ability could translate well to the next level -- especially as a pass rusher. That's an area that the Redskins have made huge attempts to improve in this offseason, signing free agent Albert Haynesworth and drafting hybrid linebacker Brian Orakpo from Texas.
"First and foremost, he's a quality person who has already graduated." said Redskins vice president of football operations Vinny Cerato, one of several in Washington's brass that took in Jarmon's workout about a week ago. "We watched him a lot on film and went to his workout last week. He has the size, strength and athleticism that we like at the position and he'll have the opportunity to learn from veterans like Phillip Daniels and Renaldo Wynn."
Jarmon, given some time to acclimate himself, could work into the Redskins rotation. The video below shows him recording one of his 17 college sacks, and you get a look at his ability to shed blockers and get to the quarterback.
None of the other seven players eligible for supplemental draft selection -- Blake Boyd (Western Kentucky), Torris Magee (Southern Mississippi), Dixon McKinner (Texas Tech), Joe McMahon (Central Michigan), Demetrice Morley (Tennessee), Deon Murphy (Kansas State) and Corey Surrency (Florida State) -- wound up on an NFL team. They all now become free agents.

The first good move from the FO in a long time. Great value for the guy, and could be a solid replacement for Daniels/Wynn.

He does not have a drug problem, idiot. He took an over the counter supplement from GNC that just happened to have a banned substance for the NCAA in it.
Great pick up by the Skins!

Another Dexter Manley that would be awesome, Dexter may not have been able to read but that guy was a great DE. Jarmon is a quality guy if he is half as good as Dexter was on the field watch out NFC east QBS.

this is a great pickup because if the redskins can move him into the starting lineup this year then they can move brian orakpo into the strong side linebacker position

listen I am as diehard of a redskins fan as there is... but i'm sorry we need some help on the offensive side of the ball. Without that help our defense doesnt mean much. We need a prolific receiver to get the job done

i agree we have a bunch of solid recievers in santana moss, chris cooley, antwain randle el but this year i think the draft picks of last year davis, thomas, and kelly will all improve dramaticly and i think thats gona help santana moss be the true # 1 reciever...its between him and cooley even though cooley is a TE

I agree with you bobbybennett333. The O-line and WR are a huge issue. The defense is already good. The team just drafted a DE and signed the best D- tackle in the game. anybody else wonder why no other team used a 3rd rounder on a guy in a supplemental draft? Vinny maybe this wasn't such a good deal? He had his best numbers in 07, while his numbers dropped in 08. Of course he said that it was over the counter supplements. What else would you say? I was on steroids trying to regain my 07 form and I got caught!
This is a guy who is not going to play until maybe the 2011 season. we will not have a 3rd pick in next year's draft. Doesn't look like they thought this one through. The team might actually have more pressing needs a year from now. the defense is already good!
