Philip Rivers went to N.C. State, which means that, as a lifelong UNC fan, I have to hate him. That's how it works. That said, I have come to grudgingly respect the guy. I even like him as much as you can like someone who claims to talk smack without cursing (that's like saying you love going to bars to drink Sprite). He's not afraid to take a hit, he's played through serious injury, and most importantly, he thinks Jay Cutler is a clown, which is something we can all get behind.
And Rivers also doesn't take himself so seriously that if a high school kid embarrasses him at his own camp, he immediately confiscates the video and has the perpetrator waterboarded to send a message to other would-be overachievers.
Moving pictures evidence after the jump.
To be fair, Rivers, who has been criticized for lacking arm strength, looked like John Elway (or, if Jay Cutler is telling this story, Jay Cutler) compared to nemesis Will Nunn. Of course, Nunn is a high school sophomore and looks like he's 5-8, 140 pounds. He's apparently modest, too, telling the local TV station that, "I don't know if [Rivers] was trying that much."
Just like LeBron!

Lebron didn't ask for or have the tape of the dunk confiscated. Do some basic research and you'll learn the story behind it. Do you really think LBJ cares if that video is out there??? The guy drops 40+ in dozens of playoff games, is a human highlight film, makes millions every year and is adored worldwide. Some college kid dunking on him isn't going to bother him in any way, shape or form. You step on a basketball court with talent and anyone can get dunked on, it's not a big deal.

as with most news items, the media rarely reports the entire story. I'm sure in Lebrons case, there's more to the story than what was reported. The same is true for Philip Rivers, the kid said it himself in the news clip. Philip doesn't care if he got beat, long term, Will Nunn (the kid) will benefit from this in many ways...Philip Rivers walks in humility and cares more about kids than he does himself. The media needs to learn a lesson or two.

Why is this a big deal? Anyone can get lucky in a game of H-O-R-S-E...how is this any different? Rivers' skills shouldn't be in question...congrats to a lucky kid.

Philip Rivers is a decent guy with few, if any pretensions. He admits it when he screws up. He shares the credit when he does something outstanding. I would have much preferred Eli Manning as the Charger quarterback, but Rivers has done a good to great job. It's very hard to dislike the guy....in fact it's impossible.

I agree with you that Rivers is a pretty good guy and that he has done a good to great job in SD. However, I have to disagree with you if you truly wish that the Chargers had kept Manning and not traded for Philip.
Don't let the fact that Manning has a SB ring or that he was the higher draft pick fool you. Manning is a decent QB, but his stock was high largely because of his pedigree. Unfortunately for Manning, his first name isn't Peyton.
Rivers is the better QB, and he has more heart than Manning will ever have. Time will tell the truth as to who was the better QB and I'd bet the farm it will be Rivers.

Are you kidding me?? You would rather have Eli Brat Manning than Phillip Rivers? No Way! PackWins is right-Rivers has way more heart and love of the game. I think he's proven that he can be a pretty good quarterback, and he truly is a nice guy. Sometimes too nice on the field, I think. Probably the best thing that ever happened to Rivers was Manning being a crybaby-it was a win-win for both him and the Chargers. It's just too bad that those of us in NC hardly ever get to see his games.

Being a life time chargers fan i just look at the video and laugh. It was a football camp for kids its wasnt the superbowl. It was the players interacting with the kids having fun. And to be honest he deserves a lil respect seeing as he wasnt a baby bout the whole thing like lebron was.

Well in all fairness you really can't compair the kid and Rivers. Throwing balls at tires are one thing..throwing to a man speeding down the feild while anywhere form two to four 300lbs monsters are rushing at you looking to rip your head off within 5 sec. now that's another galaxy altogether. Still though you gotta hand it to Rivers for being a good sport about it all...and no im not a Chargers fan in fact i hate them.

Do you LeBron fans think Nike or Lebron is going to let the real story out? LeBron is a proud, egotistical athlete, and I am glad Jay Cutler is one of the few sports writers who is not so interested in sucking up to him, that he will tell it like it is. From a Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns fan, who will not be a Cleveland Cavs fan until we begin playing "team" basketball and stop acting like every game at the Q is a worship service to Lebron.

"Amfaith".......Jay Cutler is a QB not a sports writer!! And as far as LeBron goes, leave him alone he is a class act!! You want the Cavs to play as a team, did you ever watch a game last season? If so you saw a team effort!! As a fellow Clevelander we are lucky to have someone with so much talent from our area playing on our local team. Maybe you are referring to his efforts in the past, but he was the team, the whole team! Pieces have been put in place around him to accentuate his abilities!! LeBron is extremely talented. Do all sports teams in Cleveland a favor and stay away from the games, you are a 'wannabe' fan that obviously does not know sports figures. Jay Cutler a writer, HA!!!

Big deal! So who ever throws the ball farther should be the #1 QB in the hall of fame. Right? At that moment the kid was better, but there are many more moments that make a QB.
