Back when Tarvaris Jackson was assumed to be the long-term quarterback of the Vikings, his teammates talked around any question of whether Jackson was the right man for the job.But now that we're just waiting for Brett Favre to make it official that he's going to be a Viking, and Sage Rosenfels is set to be the backup, it's pretty much open season for players (or player's dads) to explain what it's been like in recent years.
When asked about the possibility of Favre becoming a Viking, Adrian Peterson's father let it rip.
"Anybody who can keep nine guys out of the box would be greatly appreciated," Nelson Peterson said. "I don't care if it's Tarvaris (Jackson), Sage (Rosenfels), Brett Favre or anybody else."He may say he doesn't care who is at quarterback, but he's also pointing out that defenses haven't worried about Jackson.
Notice he said nine in the box. Against most running teams, a defense may bring the strong safety up to the line to help out. Peterson isn't exagerating when he says that against the Vikings, teams sometimes brought both the strong safety and the free safety up into run support. Such a defense should leave massive gaps in the secondary for a passing attack, but with Jackson (especially in 2007) that wasn't nearly as scary as the thought of Peterson getting free with room to run.
That's where Favre could make his biggest impact. Peterson has rushed for 3,101 yards in his first two seasons against defense that are stacked almost entirely to stop him. If Favre can make opponents respect the passing game, who knows how many yards Peterson could gain.

WHAT ??? Here we go again ! Did the writer say that Rosenfels is set to be the backup ?? Who the Hell are the Vikings planning on starting if Farve does not return ? Jackson again ? You have got to be kidding ! What does it take for a lousy QB to lose his job on this team? I thought the T-Jerk experiment was over this time for sure. I want Childress fired AND the writer of the article claiming Jackson is still the starter. Petersons dad is right and I have have been saying it for 2 years, Petersons career is being shortened every time some numbnutted coach runs Tarvarian Jackson out there.

Calm down, Eddie. This is JJ Cooper writing. He is not too smart, if you know what I mean. Brett will be there to take care of Peterson. It's just that they don't want to make it official yet. Trust me, when this season is over, they will refer to Brett as "The Lone Ranger"!!!!

I don't know about you but the way I interpreted it was that IF Brett Favre makes it official that he's a Viking, Sage Rosenfels is set/locked to be the backup.

He was talking about Sage being the back up to Brett. By the way the it's not Tavarian its Tarvaris. Favre's really just a short term plan. I seriously think they should trade up to a high spot in the next draft and get Tim Tebow from Florida. He'd be a great fit. Reunite him with Harven and your good to go

If most you poster would look at the stats of T-Jack you would see that he is almost dead even with Matt Ryan on a 16 game streak. T-Jack has 3,442 yards, Ryan has 3,440. Tjack 20 TDs 18 ints, Ryan 16 TDs 12 ints. % rate: T-Jack 58% Ryan 61%, average yards T- has 6.6 Ryan has 7.9, running TDs T has 4 Ryan, 1.
T-jack has 3 more fumbles lost than Ryan. With these comparable stats I cannot understand how people can say that Ryan had an amazing year and T-Jack stunk the field up. If you would research the stats and look at a season and not just one game you would see T-Jack is not bad for being a high 2nd round pick with no real WR compared to Matt Ryan who was a top 5 pick with some good WR. The kid is young, but he has potential, I seen a few of those picks come off the WR or the WR turn wrong. I would rather have Favre teach T-Jack for a year but I think T is doing okay for what he had to work with. Bill Cower himself said that if he ran the team he would use T, he likes the kid and thinks he has a future.

I still don't understand how the Viking front office idiots let the Bears get Cutler - instead of fixing our QB issue with a long term franchise QB with 10 years left we end up with Grandpa Farve - WTF

Joe, You HOPE we end up with old man Farve. Seeing Childress in action the last few years there is little doubt in my mind we are going to end up with more Tarvaris Jackson. 7 for 22, 2 picks and a fumble.
