Cowboys Heavy Metal Group Lands Debut Record Deal

Marc Colombo, Cory Procter and Leonard Davis are members of the Cowboys offensive line and they have this heavy metal group called Free Reign. The man who plays guitar is Justin Chapman -- he's not a NFL player, but he's good at what he does.

The band just signed a deal with Australia's Riot Entertainment. A debut EP should come out in the fall.

It's a surprising rise for a group of guys who have only been a group for a short period of time. Colombo, the band's lead singer, and Procter have played together for two years. Davis signed up last November, and Chapman arrived this year.

"This gives us some momentum for the next year where we can do an album," Davis said of doing an EP. "Most bands, or the average band, just to get with a record label, it takes them years, and we've done it in a couple of months."

Free Reign will headline a show on Saturday at the House of Blues in Dallas. Davis said the band, which practices at Colombo's house, will have a few new songs.

I've seen them in concert, and they're pretty good.

"People who hear our music say its comparable to what you hear on the radio," Davis said. "They respect it."

The only thing they play worse then music is football.. I'd tell them to stick to their day job but they suck at that too.. oh well...

these guys are awful. Davis looks like a statue. Bass isn't that complicated homie.. jump around a bit.

Columbo sounds like a dog in heat. He needs to get some pitch correction.

drummer is average.

totally undeserving of a record deal.. and how the hell do you say they're not that bad?

They're really NOT bad...but they aren't quite good yet either. They were close to rocking a couple times in that song. Mostly they need to just cut loose and tear shit up at the bridge and instead of the chorus. And although i was initially put off by the lyrical style, it could work with some freestyle shredding ala' Anthrax or Biohazard/NYHC-style breakdowns.

Not bad for guys who have day-jobs.

And it's prolly easy to get "signed" when you're already a millionaire....duh.

It's amazing to see what these players will do to gain attention off of the field - getting arrested, changing their names and now forming rock bands? What's next? These players should be focusing their attention on their training so they can earn some attention for their performance on the field.

They would be better if they would leave the vocals out and just play music. The vocals suck bigtime and that is saying a lot because most heavy metal vocals suck bigtime. The backup singer is hideous.

Oh boy... they can't sing...they're totally tone deaf...lead guitarist is good and drummer is pretty good....just goes to show what money can buy...the screaming sucks too...spend some of that football money on a couple of years of vocal lessons
