Own Ryan Leaf Jersey for Just $499

Here's something for the person who has nothing: a Ryan Leaf autographed jersey. It would make for a fantastic gift if this was 1998 and you were a downtrodden Chargers fan hoping that Leaf would resurrect the franchise that won just four times in 1997.

Eleven years later, not so much. In fact, it's something you wouldn't be surprised to get from your Secret Santa when there's a $15 spending limit. Except that Ryan Leaf's John Hancock is surprisingly expensive when written on high-quality Pro-Brite nylon with a lycratalic spandex dazzle collar: $449.99 (but only $4.99 for shipping!).

Holy hell. If the plan is to not sell one of these, then the pricing is spot on. And if the idea is to put the proceeds toward Leaf's defense fund, it might be worth mentioning that somewhere on the site for those interested in donating. Otherwise, this is just somebody at the NFL Shop having some fun.

MJD, an admitted Leaf fan, adds some perspective: "Once Ryan Leaf writes on something, is it still worth the value of the fabric used in its construction? Is there anyone out there who would be happy if Ryan Leaf walked up to them and spontaneously wrote his name on their shirt? Is there anyone who would not turn to him and say, 'Hey, what the hell, pal?'"

It's sorta like Brian Jackson pretending to be Ben Roethlisberger when he signs your Steelers jersey. But worse.
