Asked by ESPN's Michael Smith whether he can handle being a backup for another season, Young answered, "I mean, if it happens, I ain't got no choice. I did it this year. I definitely don't want to be a backup, but -- you know, I want to play."
Young added that Titans coach Jeff Fisher hasn't communicated with him about what he needs to do to earn the starting job.
"I'm ready to play football," Young said. "And I don't know what NFL player around the league don't want to play or be a starter. So what I'm saying is that I'm ready to play ball. And if it's not here, in my next two years that I'm not going to be able to play here, then I'm telling guys around the league, I'm ready to play ball. That's basically what I'm saying. ... I'm just saying I'm ready to play football, and if I don't get a shot to play again here, then obviously I'm not going to be here."
you did it to yourself you idiot! Coming out of a game because the home crowd booed you, your pathetic go to the cfl so i never hear from u again.Micheal Vick deserves a shot before you you wimp!
You were just a one-season flash in the pan, Vincey. It's not enough to be just the best athlete on the field at the professional level. You are actually expected to learn your position now.
MY ADVISE FOR VINCE WOULD BE TO TAKE A STEP BACK AND PUT HIS PRIORITIES IN ORDER. OBVIOUSLY HE IS A TALENT THAT HAS TROUBLE ASSIMULATING IN CRITICAL SITUATIONS ON THE FIELD.HE NEEDS A GOOD FRIEND OR SOMEONE HE RESPECTS TO GUIDE HIM WHERE HE LACKS CONFIDENCE OR COMMON SCENCE. THAT SAID/ IF VINCE CAN PUT IT TOGETHER WATCH OUT BECAUSE HE CAN BE A MAJOR THREAT TO ANY TEAM HE PLAYS AGAINST. IM ROOTING FOR HIM JOE CAPRIO/CITYLIFEPRODUCTIONS
Let's be honest - Vince Young hasn't done anything to justify taking back the job as the starting quarterback for the Tennessee Titans.
But if we're being equally honest, Kerry Collins hasn't done much to justify keeping the job himself, with the exception of not being Vince Young. I'm starting to wonder, especially given Vince's comments over the last couple of weeks, whether Young has been 'locked out' because of Jeff Fisher. Am I the only one that notices that Young keeps saying that Jeff Fisher told him what he needed to do to win the starting job back, but never seems to say what Fisher told him? That doesn't seem like the kind of information that would warrant a 'gag order' by Vince. What that tells me is that it's very possible that Fisher has told him (even if he hasn't TOLD him) that he will not get the starting job back no matter what he does. Hence, a lockout.
This isn't like the situation in Arizona, where Leinart's there, and he's being kept out of his starting job by Warner, who's just outplaying him. Kerry Collins hasn't been playing out of his mind, either. The guy's 30-a lot and will probably hang it up in a couple of years, one way or the other. If you're the Titans (especially since you HAVEN'T drafter another QB at all) and Fisher, you have to ask yourself if Kerry Collins, on the downside of his career, can get you to a Super Bowl in the next two years better than a still-developing Vince Young can.
Young's done several things to mess up his own career, yes, but the Titans haven't handled him properly - and the fact that they waited until this point to draft a top-flight wideout (as much as I love to watch Chris Johnson run) is just the tip of the iceberg.
Don't make him waste his efforts if you're not going to give him a legitimate shot to play again. Long story short - if they were going into this season with Collins as the undisputed starter (something you should never do unless your quarterback's named Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, or just had an MVP-type year) they should have drafted another QB, because what you risk doing is that, if Collins doesn't win a Super Bowl in two years, the Titans will want to go for a younger option. Except - whoops! You never gave Vince a chance to get back on the field, so he's gone, and now you have nobody to fall back on, with Simms now in Denver.
That leaves you with two choices.
Either you can pray to God that someone's going to pull a Denver Broncos and piss off their young star QB so badly that he wants to get shipped out...but that happens, oh, once every 10-15 years or so.
Or, your other obvious option - spend a first-round pick on a QB and hope that he can start day one and win soon.
So, long story short, if the Titans want to do everything they can to avoid starting Vince Young again - and that's the way it seems, to be honest - ship him this year. Some teams would be desperate enough to take a chance on a guy like Vince. Maybe the Rams, for instance. Bulger's become too used to losing to get the job done, he's not the long-term option, and Vince Young, even if he isn't a good player, can be exciting - which puts fans in the seats, something that the Rams have been lacking since their recent run at futility. Next, take your chances with Kerry, but make damn sure that you draft a QB first round next year, no matter if you go 0-16 or win the freaking Super Bowl. It makes no sense to eat a contract that size if you're never going to let the guy see the field again. I don't really know what's going on, but I know one thing - spite tends to make for some really shitty business decisions.
Thank god the Texans took Mario Williams over this Vince clown. Being from Houston I obviously have deep feelings for the Titans (Oilers). I was sorry to see them leave. I was one of the Texan fans who crushed management for not taking Vince when they had the chance. Glad I was wrong
