Good news: the Vikings are still in the running for Brett Favre. Despite reports, head coach Brad Childress hasn't given Favre a deadline and even admitted that he's "anxious to see exactly what he's got left in that cannon because he had a pretty good arm as we know." Yeah, if this is 2007.
Whatever, Favre Watch '09 continues unabated. Despite the uncertainty surrounding the ole gunslinger's return, Childress isn't anxious about the situation. "I'm not losing sleep or anything ... I'm not on any mood elevators or anything like that. You always will want to see that, yeah." Good to know.
Tarvaris Jackson, however, could probably stand to do with a little less Favre, something he went through last offseason, too.
"If you had to hear it year in and year out, all the time, eventually you're going to be tired of it. But I guess it just comes with being the quarterback for the Vikings right now. It is what it is."Hey, Tarvaris, how about you suck it up? Because according to NFL.com's Jamie Dukes, Favre is the real victim here. (No way Dukes believes what he wrote, but for the sake of argument, let's pretend he does.)
Dukes points out that if the Packers hadn't run Favre out of town last year, we wouldn't currently be subjected to round-the-clock Favre coverage. Right, because prior to last offseason, Brett never talked about retirement and used it as an excuse to skip out on voluntary workouts and minicamps. Also: I wonder if Dukes really thinks Favre was willing to hang out in Green Bay if Aaron Rodgers won the job. I'm going with no.
There's more.
I don't understand why it's a big deal that Favre wants to play football again. He should be allowed to play as long as someone is willing to sign him. The way I see it, Favre has done nothing wrong. He still has it. Look at last season - he played fantastic until he hurt his arm late in the season.Really, Jamie? That's your argument? That we shouldn't be hypocrites? Here's the thing: if Favre didn't fake retire every year, and if it didn't result in an offseason full of daily "will he or won't he?" coverage, I wouldn't care what he did. And I think that's pretty much how everybody else feels.
Look, I understand if you don't want Favre on your team, but it's hypocritical to say he should stop playing because you think it's time for him to stop. What if I were to tell you that you have worked at your job long enough and it's my opinion that you should look for something else to do? You would tell me where to go.
Favre is entitled to the same liberties as anyone else.
In fact, I haven't once heard somebody argue that Favre should quit playing football solely because he's washed up. Kurt Warner is proof that guys, even well into their 30s, can play well. Nobody's clamoring for Warner to call it a career. Funny how that works.
As far as I'm concerned, Favre can play until he's 50. I'd just prefer not to be beaten about the head with it February through August. But maybe I'm just being selfish since, you know, Favre is entitled to the same liberties as anyone else. Or something.*
*Seriously, Dukes can't buy into this. Until I hear otherwise, I'm going on the assumption that he wrote this post at gunpoint.

Well, there you go again, Ryan. Another blazing example that you are one of the most disgusting morons to ever right a blog.
Who is doing all the "beaten about the head with it "? You and all your blogger buddies. If you are tired of hearing about Brett Favre, quit writing about him.
And you think Aaron Rodger would have beaten Brett out fair and square? The guy that went 6-10 and two of the wins was against a 0-16 team?
I happen to agree that Brett is the victim here. He's a victim from the consant onslaught of lies and "The Anonymous Sources" you bozos come up with.

Rodgers went 6-10 from a crappy defense and a lot of close games.

I have a lot of respect for Brett Favre, I really do. However this year after year I might retire, I'm not retiring, I'm retiring, I'm coming back, uncertainty is just so....annoying. Sure people are indecisive, but this is getting ridiculous. I don't care if he plays, stays retired, or even where he plays, I would just like to see him make up his mind. And if he does come back, why the Vikings? Revenge? What a shame. I miss the Brett Favre that played football just because he loved the game.

They had virtually the same defensive players and coaches as they had in 2007 when Brett Favre took them to 13-3. I wonder why??? Maybe Brett brought them leadership and Aaron didn't?

Think about what you just said.
Same defensive players, same defensive coaches. '07 they are 13-3, '08 they are 6-10. why? Just because TT and MM put all the blame on the defensive coaches doesn't necessarily make it fact.
And yes - The good quarterbacks do everything posible to make their teammates better, even the defense. the mediocre ones believe they should only play offense.

I concede, your right.
Any quarterback that threw for 4038 yards, 28TDs, 13 INTs, and finished the season with a 93.8 passer rating is obviously the reason his team went 6-10.
My mistake.
Have fun hating him, he obviously deserves it. . .

Yep! he sure believes he should play offense.
And, no I don't hate him. I just don't think is is the great quarterback you and others would like to think he is. He is good - like a lot of professional quarterbacks in the league. But is he good enough to take the team to the playoffs this year?
And if not, who are you and the rest of the Rodgers fans going to blame this time?

well if you are truly sick of hearing about him throughout the off season STOP WRITING ABOUT HIM. he has the right to play the cards that were dealt to him any way he wants.obviously he wanted out of greenbay years ago and was to much a gentleman to whine and cry " trade me or i won't play" ,the packers had the chance to get randy moss and balked when farve wanted him so bad they go 13-3 a game away from the superbowl ,does anyone agree with me here moss could have been difference. but the guy has entertained the football world for 18 yrs and if someone wants to sign him he can do it for another . but don't be an idiot and write an article about how your sick and tired of seeing articles about him!

that depends on who plays bad. Rodgers had top five numbers this year. That sounds great to me. But if he plays bad next year I won't defend him. But I'll wait till he gives me a reason to hang him out to dry before I do.

@Xdinnc: I think you're safe in defending Aaron Rodgers for now. He was more than solid last year and I really wouldn't put a whole lot of the blame on him. He played his ass off. The defense was a little lackluster, but the running game also wasn't as good as we thought from Ryan Grant, et al. (not "bad", just not game-changing like the year prior).
@John: I'm glad you were the first to say it on this thread. These bloggers can piss and moan for three hours without a subject, all the while they're becoming the problem. Listen, I'M sick of hearing about the Favre saga (and I'm a friggin' Vikings fan), but who's more to blame? Brett or the media? Well, hmmm, Brett's said absolutely ZERO in months, leaving vapid speculation up to the media. But at this point I blame the bloggers THE MOST for force-feeding the most puerile, negative crap that they shouldn't give one-tenth of one sh*t about. I know I may sound biased because I'm a Vikings fan, but I DO, in fact, believe the man can still play, and play well. Even if he were returning to play for the Bucs or the Titans or Raiders or something, I'd still think it would greatly improve their offense.
If you do a Google News search on Brett Favre, the vast majority of the results (when sorted by date) are from blogs like Bleacher Report [wretch]. One blogger the other day actually wrote about how he hates Wrangler Jeans and Prilosec OTC, just because Brett endorses them. I thought about burning this guy, but some other commenter beat me to it by calling his point-of-view on Brett Favre "pre-menstrual." (Not bad, but I'm going to try and think of something better, dammit.)

Ryan,
Please GIVE IT A REST!!!!! If Favre wants to play and a team wants to sign him, more power to him!!! I, personally, think if he was not around to be bashed upon, you would not have any "fodder" to write, unless it was bashing Wade Phillips. It is amazing to me that Childress does not seem concerned, but the media won't give it a rest LOL
I hope he does get to play for the Vikings, and does beat the crap out of GB, just for Teddy's benefit!! I would not miss those games ;)
Have a great day,
Brenda GO COWBOYS!!!!!!!!!

Hey Childress, hope the Vikings budget has enough for construction of Bwett's private locker room, a bronze statue of Bwett that all the peons have to kneel before and a press conference room for Deanna so she can defend Bwett when the meany press picks on him.

Why don't you put your low life ads somewhere else. They don't belong on this site.
By the way, you wouldn't know one of Brett's family if they hit you in the face with their birth certificate.

Oct 5, 2009 - Bwett Fawv is rumbling, bumbling, stumbling and fumbling in the face of the GB pass rush when he trips over his own feet and falls into a time warp, finding himself on Guadalcanal in WW II. A runner tells him the Lt. wants to see him in in the company CP.
Lt. McArthy - "Fawv, we gotta pull you off the line. The last two grenades you threw wounded a bunch of own guys."
Pvt. Fawv - "WHAT!!?? Bullshit Lt., I still got it! I'm gonna go fight for the Japanese!"
Meanwhile stateside, Deanna holds a press conference and blames FDR for not drafting enough good Marines to fight alongside Bwett.
