Vince Young's Agent: He Wasn't Looking for a Trade

Vince Young may have sounded like he's ready to get out of Nashville, but his agent says he meant nothing of the sort when he was interviewed by a Baltimore radio station.
"He was just voicing his opinion about competing for a starting job," his agent Major Adams said Wednesday, adding that Young was surprised by the magnitude of the controversy. "He's not asking for trade, we haven't had any talks about being traded. He looks forward to competing and being ready for this season."
Now it's worth remembering that Young said his offseason was going to be spent keeping his mouth shut. That was before he told a Baltimore radio station that he wants to go elsewhere if the Titans aren't going to start him this year. Apparently in agent speak "If them guys don't want me to be in there, man, it's time for me to make a career change for myself." and "not asking for a trade" mean the same thing.

It really doesn't matter whether Young wants a trade or not. With $24 million owed to him over the next three years, his contract makes him untradeable. But more than that, it's worth repeating that barring an injury to Kerry Collins this year that gives Young a chance to regain the starting job and lead the Titans to the playoffs, Young will not be in Tennessee in 2010.

The Titans will have to pay Young a $4.25 million roster bonus next offseason. That by itself would be enough to ensure he's gone, but his cap number for next year is $14.25 million, which makes him absolutely impossible to keep as a backup or even as a mediocre starter

That contract was created to give the Titans incentive to redo his contract before the 2010 season. But by then, Young was supposed to be leading the Titans to the Super Bowl. Instead, he's battling Patrick Ramsey to be the team's primary backup, which means he's going to be very likely wearing another team's jersey in 2010.
