NBC will add former Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy and former Patriots safety Rodney Harrison to its Sunday night football broadcast team, the network announced today."Both of these guys will have no problem talking about the game in both positive and critical ways," NBC chairman Dick Ebersol said on a conference call.
The NBC executives on the call said they hadn't finalized their broadcast crew for the 2009 season, but they did say they were planning more changes, that they would be moving at least part of their pregame show to the venues where the Sunday night games will be played and that they'll be "clearing out" more time for their analysts to analyze the specific game they're broadcasting that night.
"Just like I played the game, I'm going to be honest, I'm going to be forthright, and I'm going to do it with passion," said Harrison, who announced his retirement from the Patriots three hours earlier.
Dungy retired from his position as Colts coach in January. He made headlines last month when he met with disgraced former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick in prison, and he said today that the appeal of a broadcast job that required him to work one day a week and still have weekdays off was too much to turn down.
"I'm looking forward to bringing a coach's point of view to the fans," Dungy said.

I don't care who is on the post, pre, or half time shows, I don't watch any of the Dumbasses who try and tell me what I just saw. I turn down the sound on the TV and most of the time turn the radio on the the local broadcast team. Thats the only way to listen and watch a football game.

Rodney was a great safety - on the level of Atwater and Lott. Now Dungy...he'll be lucky to see Canton. He made it to the playoffs often. Whoopty do. 1 Super Bowl in 10 trips to the playoffs? The guy almost make Marty Schottenheimer seem like a winner.

That's a shame. Dungy's a pedantic hyper-religious tool. They could have only made the show worse by adding Joe "Peyton's crap smells like roses" Theismann.
