The Washington Redskins have re-structured the contract of wide receiver Santana Moss, giving him a new guaranteed payment of $6.28 million in the process. As you might expect, Moss's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, is pleased. And as everyone who's following Rosenhaus on Twitter (like me) would expect, Rosenhaus has taken to expressing his pleasure in 140-character increments.
But I think Rosenhaus may have given the Redskins something of a backhanded compliment in these tweets:
I'm glad we were able to restructure Santana's deal. It was a win-win. More guaranteed $ for Santana and more cap room for the Redskins.Yes, as Rosenhaus says, the Redskins want to win, and they're easy to work with. At least, they are if you're the agent for a star player and you want to get that star player some cash.
Santana restructured his contract with the Redskins in order to guarantee and front load the next two seasons. This will also improve his...
...chances of getting a new contract extension after the 09 season. The Redskins are one of the best teams to work with - they want to win.
I think the Redskins' problem, however, is that they're too easy to work with when signing new contracts for star players, and as a result they don't save enough salary cap space to build the nucleus of their franchise. For every Moss or Albert Haynesworth who gets showered with money by the Redskins, there's a mid-level player they can't afford to fit under their cap.
Rosenhaus works hard to make sure his clients make a lot of money, and that's why I don't think NFL teams should feel good about having Rosenhaus praising their spending habits.

The funny thing is, everyone (including me) criticizes the Skins FO for their spending, but they always come up with a way to keep the guys they want and acquiring new players, without going over the cap. Right now, even with the new acquisitions like Haynesworth, we're around $10 million under the cap. So it's really not the money that's ever been the problem with the Redskins, it's more the mentality that Danny and Vinny have, thinking they can build a team through free agents and trades, rather than the draft.

Seems like the skins are trying to free up some money to sign a free agent. I believe they had some interest in Greg Ellis earlier in the off-season.

Why wouldnt Drew Rosenhaus be smilling for getting Santana a nice new contract when he will profit from it to..I think Santana is a super guy and a asset to the Skins and is worth every cent BUT when agents even though its their job get nice fat checks for the player say they are happy well thats just for themselves as far as im concerned ...Well done to the redskins for keeping players like this and of course there are some people out there that say he (Santana)is to small well i have just one answer to that and i couldnt say it here but there ya go..Anyway regards to all Skins fans out there..HAIL Steve Dublin Ireland

Brilliance!I said going into the offseason what a need for the skins could be addressed if they signind Albert Haynesworth, but how could they?No room under the cap? Working towards a capless season, however they have to.Moss is one of the cornerstones of our offense. If someone could develop a formidable presence on the opposite side(HELLO MALCOLM KELLEY & DEVIN THOMAS!!!!) and defenses couldn't just roll coverage to 'Tana every time you would see him become one of the NFL elite receivers. We have fans in Dublin?Crazy!

The cap space freed up from restructuring Moss' deal is probably what allowed them to absorb the cap hit from releasing Jansen.

exactly...but they do have some wiggle room for another move or two..they should wait until camp..because every year they have to make a panic move when somebody gets hurt the first day of camp
