Randy Starks Charged With Aggravated Battery in Bizarre Auto Assault on Officer

Dolphins defensive lineman Randy Starks allegedly broke a few obvious Memorial Weekend rules: first, don't pile 13 people in your four-person-carrying truck. Second, when an police officer approaches your truck full of people, stop driving.

According to the Miami Herald, Starks' decision to keep his black freight-liner in motion after being approached by the officer resulted in his arrest on charges of aggravated assault.
The officer walked up to the car and knocked on the side window; Starks kept driving. Starks finally stopped when the officer knocked on the side door. Then the car accelerated, moving slightly to the left.

The movement caused the vehicle to hit the officer in the chest and pinned him against against a vehicle in the another lane.
The entire series of events is beyond bizarre: the fact that Starks seemed completely unconcerned with the officer's presence near his vehicle is mind-blowing. And the turn of the wheel that seemingly caused the officer to be pinned up against another vehicle just makes zero sense -- it's like something I saw on the New Jersey turnpike between a mack-truck driver and an angry motorist.

That was weird, of course, but it occurred between two citizens; wondering how a similar situation unfolds between a professional athlete and a police officer is just beyond weird. Starks is being held on $10,000 bond in Miami; one would have to think that Bill Parcells might not be thrilled with his actions this weekend.
