New Orleans to Host 2013 Super Bowl

SuperdomeFORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- NFL commissioner Roger Goodell just announced that New Orleans will be the host city for Super Bowl XLVII in 2013.

It will be New Orleans' 10th Super Bowl, which will tie it with Miami for the most ever. Miami will host its 10th in 2010.

"I think this is a great statement about the spirit of the people of New Orleans and the great relationship the NFL and the Saints have with that community," Goodell said.

"We're just thrilled about what's going on," Saints owner Tom Benson said. "We're getting a new Superdome, now we're getting a Super Bowl. New Orleans is back."

It will be the first Super Bowl in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina devastated that city, and the announcement comes as the Saints are finalizing arrangements to stay in Louisiana at least through the year 2025. Benson said the reaction the community had to the Saints' post-hurricane return in 2006 "was just small compared to what's happening here now."

"I don't even think I'll need a plane to fly home tomorrow," Benson said.
