Two weeks ago, I wrote that, according to a New York Daily source, Brett Favre couldn't "stand Green Bay." We all read it, nodded knowingly, and braced for what was to come: another offseason of "Favre is coming back!?" talk. In that time, FanHouse has devoted 32 posts to Favre, and here's what we know: he's currently retired, he'll probably come back -- again -- he's old and his arm hurts. So with equal parts shock and awe, NFL Network's Scott Hanson leaked word yesterday via the Twitter machine that there were new developments on the Favre front.
And that's mostly true. While we learn that Favre still hates the Packers, Hanson's sources provide details, which will no doubt come in handy when fleshing out the made-for-television script.
According to sources, Favre explained to Goodell that he had no choice but to ask the Packers to come back in order to force his release if they wouldn't let him compete with Aaron Rodgers for the starting job in Green Bay. Favre's intention was to be released and join the Vikings. So there ya go. Favre's a competitor! Favre still has the fire! Favre's only got one good arm and his refusal to retire has gone from cute to annoying to embarrassingly sad in the five years he's been threatening to quit only to change his mind a few weeks later!
At one point, according to the source, Favre got passionate on the phone, telling Goodell, "He (Thompson) doesn't want me going to Minnesota, because he knows I'll kick his ass twice a year!"
I suspect it'll be more of the same this time around. And I'm not even willing to concede that should he end up in Minnesota, Favre won't kick the Packers' ass twice a season. Not so much because he's the ole gunslinger, but because the Vikings are already playoff team, they just need a quarterback. Maybe they already have one, at least temporarily, in Sage Rosenfels. Or, more likely it seems, Favre.
So heads-up Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy: complimentary ass-kickings courtesy of Favre and the Vikings are coming your way Oct. 5 and Nov. 1. You've been warned. Or something.

It would be quite cool to see Farve in Minnesota. I hope the arm heals well - and he gets the job.

Fun article on the situation. I don't really care what Favre ultimately does. While I think the Vikings are Super Bowl material, especially if they get Favre, that doesn't mean they will beat the Packers. How fun would it be to see a good show down between Rodgers/Favre. I can't wait to see Favre get intercepted by Woodson and Collins! Bring it on!

The last line about ass kickings coming their way... not so sure. MN is a good team without Favre. He does not make them any better.
He's old, injured, makes poor decisions and since 1997 has choked when it matters. He has lived off his reputation since the late 1990's.
He was great then, now he is a tool. He gives all mentally challenged people they too can play Quarterback in the NFL.
Bring it on.
Let the legend who drank too much, popped pills, was aloof, did not want to join his teammates in the offseason, ran around on his wife even as late as 2006..bring it.
He and his wife are as happy as Bill and Hilary Clinton are together. It's all a shame. There is not a camera they won't smile and hug for.
This guy and his brother need to go back and get their GEDs this summer.
I was a Packer Fan - was a Favre fan.
Bart Starr is still and will always be the man in Green Bay.

Ryan - The only thing that has gotten "has gone from cute to annoying to embarrassingly sad" in your unprofessional writing skills. At least Scott Hanson sticks to the facts.
No one knows for sure if Favre will be back, if he does will it be with the Vikings, or if he will be successful or not if he does come back. Personally, I hope he does come back. He is a great competitor and fun to watch. And he just might be what it takes to help the Vikings to finally win a Super Bowl ring.
If you can't write articles that are informative and accurate, then go find another job. Your constant bashing of Brett Favre is nothing but a cheap attempt to make yourself sound intelligent.
HERE IS A SHOCKING DEVELOPMENT - YOU'RE NOT!

Not that he should, but if he chooses to continue playing, so be it. Barring the injury last year, he was very consistent, and the Jets were very legitimate.
The one thing that bugs me about this entire deal, especially when a blogger whines about Favre disliking Thompson is this...its more than coincidental that the Favre retire-o-rama started right about the time oh...Coach Buzzcut got his job. One of the very first moves Ted made? Drafting a qb. And thats BEFORE Favre started truly showing signs of age.
Another? If Ted and Chubs McCarthy were so convinced this guy was done like a two dollar steak, why all the hullabaloo with the Vikes...LAST YEAR.
Demanding 43 draft picks, and then forcing the Jets to make silly clauses preventing Favre from being traded? Really.
Proofs in the pudding, gents. If Ted were honest, hed have let Favre simply walk, or gotten draft picks from the Vikes or whoever the hell wanted Favre, simply on his "confidence" in Rodgers alone, much less the "confidence" in the team itself. The guy was scared, thats all. He crapped the bed on a stalwart HOF qb from the get go, and then c.y.a.'d it to the tune of "Bretts over the hill."
Lets try and not play it one sided so much from now on, thanks.

I hope you all realize that even if the Vikings land Favre, Childress will still start T-Jack despite his ineptitude. That's how delusional the Vikings organization is. Favre will be third-string at best.

Yeah, Right! The Vikings are going to give Favre a several million dollar contract to be third string. Think before you write.

im just gonna start off by saying that every single friggin year the vikes are "one player away from a superbowl team" yet year after year they let their fans down.... which is why they cant even sell their games out.... the packers year in and year out beat the vikings at least once or sweep them... i hate to say it but the packers were made to beat a team like the vikings ..... they dont run much, they have incredible recievers and someone to get them the ball, the vikings have horrible corners and are weak at safety, our defense has been revitalized after being plagued with injury last year, and favre whenever he gets the big moment horribly lets everyone down he has only not choked in one moment in his career and that was the passing of his father... other than that he has been a huge choke and trust me had it not been for desmond howard and reggie white he would have lost us our first superbowl to .... so please favre play for the vikes so we can "KICK YOUR ASS TWICE A YEAR" vikings you guys have never won a friggin superbowl are your not going to now just because people tell you your super bowl caliber doesnt mean shit you still have to win games and make it through the playoffs which this team is not built to do

Get him, Vikes! Senor Choke, who plays like crap in domes on turf, will soon be popping Prozac after tossing a league high number of INT's and losing fumbles while he runs around like the crybaby idiot he is. Yay, Bwett Fawv! Of course, he and Deanna will blame...well, everyone, except Bwett Fawv for his dismal failure.
