Brett Favre to Vikings Not Dead Quite Yet

Brett Favre was going to be a Viking two days ago. 24 hours ago, he was not -- it's one of the things Wilson and I spoke to Jay Mariotti about on the HausCast last night -- and everyone was thrilled because it meant that, finally, he would leave us alone.

Turns out, well, that might not be the case. In fact, it's the exact opposite: Jeremy Schapp of ESPN is reporting that the Vikings and Favre are swapping X-rays (or some-such) and that if Favre clears the Vikes' physical requirements, he may join Minnesota after all.

Specifically, if Favre requires "major" surgery on his shoulder, he will remain retired. If no such surgery is required, Schapp's source expects Favre to unretire and join the Vikings.

This report is, of course, in stark contrast to the news that broke yesterday: Bus Cook, Favre's agent, even told FanHouse that "as far as [he] knew" the gunslinger was not going to join another NFL team.

But the truth of the matter is there's no reason to believe, at least until the season starts and Favre is in "civis," that No. 4 won't be suiting up for another team, particularly if he's really feeling as vengeful towards the Packers as most reports indicate.
