Not all that long ago, the Dolphins took a shot on John Beck as their starting quarterback. The 40th-overall pick in the 2007 draft out of BYU, Beck entered the Miami lineup after the team's 0-9 start to 2007. Beck lost four straight, committing eight turnovers and throwing exactly zero touchdown passes in that stretch. And just like that, Beck's initial chance to be a No. 1 guy in the NFL ended. His career in Miami ended as well earlier this offseason, and now Beck will try to latch on with Baltimore after reportedly agreeing to a one-year deal with the Ravens this weekend.
Beck will compete with Troy Smith to be Joe Flacco's backup in 2009.
One random aside to this Beck development: on Saturday, Baltimore's official website ran a story saying that The Deseret News was reporting that Beck would be a Raven. Now, no offense meant to the people that bust their butts running the Ravens' homepage -- but shouldn't someone that has access to the site be able to provide some sort of insight to free-agent signings? Maybe it's just me, but I found it a little unusual.
Anyway, random and pointless rants out of the way, several teams were rumored to have interest in Beck, including the Lions, who seem to be growing more and more certain that Drew Stanton will never be a viable QB option. Baltimore may be feeling the same way about Smith at this point, and if Beck can fill the backup spot, the Ravens will probably close in on that conclusion as well.

Again, the Ravens are showing signs of being a serious contender for the Super Bowl. All we need now are more grade A receivers.

Right, but I still don't think we can beat the Steelers. Hate to admit it, but it looks like they'll still be too tough for our Baltimore boys! A wild card could still be a possibility though.
