The second half of the NFL offseason is here. Rookies and second-year players are coming in, trying to prove themselves in minicamps. But there are a few veterans who either want out, could be cut, or not re-signed by NFL teams. Here's a look at 10 who probably need a new address.
1. Brian Griese, Tampa Bay, QB. When the Bucs drafted Josh Freeman, it put the number of quarterbacks in camp at five. Byron Leftwich was signed in free agency and there is still hope in Josh Johnson. Griese looks expendable here.
2. Anquan Boldin, Arizona, WR. He wants out and the Cardinals want him gone. Trade talks, no matter how serious with the Giants and Eagles, didn't materialize into a deal before the draft. There has to be a trade partner out there for a player who has registered four 1,000-yard seasons in his career.
3. LaMont Jordan, Denver, RB. Yes, the Broncos brought him in, along with Correll Buckhalter and J.J. Arrington, just this offseason. But the drafting of Knowshon Moreno could spell the end of the veteran, because Denver might go with younger, healthier players. An example of this is Denver cutting Selvin Young due to neck issues on Thursday.
4. Braylon Edwards, Cleveland, WR. Like Boldin, Edwards wants out. Like yesterday. He's too much of a diva for coach Eric Mangini to deal with. The fans might be tired of Edwards' act. They booed him on opening day last season and, as talented as Edwards is, he averaged 15.9 yards per catch, but only had three touchdown receptions.
5. Derek Anderson, Cleveland, QB. Eric Mangini has to make a decision. It's nice to have a little quarterback competition and all with Brady Quinn, but the bottom line is to release or trade Anderson and deal with the salary cap issues later. Quinn is younger and might have a better future.
6. Javon Walker, Oakland, WR. Al Davis had to convince Walker to remain in the league last season. Walker's health (he played in only eight games last season) and his mental state (he's still recovering from the death of his close friend and former Broncos teammate Darrent Williams) wore him down last year. Walker probably needed a year off. New address too.
7. Hank Fraley, Cleveland, C. The Browns' first-round pick was a center, Alex Mack. The Browns get younger at this position by moving Mack in and Fraley out.
8. Sheldon Brown, Philadelphia, CB. Ellis Hobbs was acquired from the Patriots and that should spell the end of Brown, who isn't happy in Philly.
9. Greg Ellis, Dallas, LB. The Cowboys drafted two inside linebackers, and Ellis is never happy with his playing time. Jerry Jones said Ellis is on the roster and don't read too much into drafting the linebackers. If the Cowboys cut him, they owe him $1.5 million.
10. Mark Tauscher, Free Agent, G. Tauscher played with the Packers last season but finished the year on IR after he tore his ACL. He's a free agent and, with the Packers drafting two offensive linemen, it could mean Tauscher will not receive a new contract.
