Braylon Edwards Sought Modeling Advice During Football Game

It seemed Braylon Edwards had weathered the worst of it. Speculation had the Browns trading him out of Cleveland by draft weekend, yet four days later, he's still on the roster.

Maybe head coach Eric Mangini thought Edwards could find his '07 Pro Bowl form (maybe). Or perhaps general manager George Kokonis scared off potential suitors by asking for too much in return (more likely).

Whatever, Braylon's still in Cleveland, and for the time being, he's the go-to guy. All that's left to decide is who'll throw him the ball. Browns fans desperately want owner Randy Lerner to put together a winning team. If that means giving Edwards the benefit of the doubt, then so be it. (At least until he drops his next pass.)

This probably doesn't help accomplish that, however. Former Texans safety Will Demps spilled the beans to ESPN The Magazine about an in-game encounter he had with Edwards last season:
"Last year, I was with the Texans, and when we played the Browns, Braylon Edwards asked me between plays if we could talk after the game about modeling and acting."
You know, I don't have a problem with this. We're eager to point out when a former professional athlete falls on his face after his playing days are over (obvious example), but as soon as a guy tries to plan for life after sports we jump on him for that, too.

Sure, the timing could have been better, but the Browns were 4-6 (about to be 4-7) and had no shot at the playoffs; Edwards was distracted. (As the Cleveland Plain Dealer kindly points out, Braylon had just three catches for 38 yards against the Texans; thankfully, there was no mention on the number of drops.)

As for what this could lead to: just look at Rick Fox and Jason Taylor. I mean, imagine where Travis Henry might be right now if Demps had taken time to talk to him about the awesomeness of modeling. I do have one question, though: why didn't Braylon just ask Brady Quinn?
