The New York Jets made the biggest splash of Saturday's NFL draft by trading up for USC quarterback Mark Sanchez, but they wanted to do more than just that. According to one report, the Jets tried to trade back into the first round to select Florida wide receiver Percy Harvin, who ultimately went to the Minnesota Vikings with the 22nd pick in the first round.Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets liked Harvin so much that they called the Cleveland Browns -- the team that shipped them the fifth pick, with which they took Sanchez -- to inquire about another trade. After a series of trades, the Browns had the 21st pick, and the Jets wanted to take Harvin there.
The problem, of course, was that the Jets didn't have much to offer in a trade because they had already sent Cleveland their first-round pick, second-round pick and three players to acquire Sanchez. So whatever the Browns demanded to give up the 21st pick, the Jets couldn't afford it. And that left Harvin available for the Vikings.
For Jets fans at the draft, adding Sanchez alone was a major cause for celebration. Adding Harvin as the newest weapon for Sanchez in the passing game would have made them go delerious. Instead, the Jets had to settle for just getting the quarterback, and the Vikings got the big-play receiver they wanted.

Harvin is going to be awesome. I don't know if the Vikings have the right offense to make good use of his skills, but one way or another that guy is going to make big plays in the NFL.
