Matthew Stafford, QB
|
Scouting Report: Stafford often gets compared to Jay Cutler, and that carries both positive and negative connotations. Has a very strong arm, capable of making deep throws and long out passes, though sometimes tries to use that strength to force passes into tight coverage. Good moxie, intelligent, tested very well on the Wonderlic and performed well in pre-draft interviews. Very well-built with exceptional durability through college. Tends to lose his fundamentals in the face of pressure.
2009 Outlook: Matt Ryan set the bar for rookie QBs coming into the league, but Stafford may need more time. In an ideal situation, Stafford will spend 2009 on the bench, learning an offense and seeing NFL-level speed, then step into a starting role in 2010. He's probably capable of taking on backup duties in '09, but forcing him to start could be setting him up for failure.

I'm not a Detroit Lions fan, but I will pull for them now. I am a BIG Georgia Bulldog fan, and will pull for Detroit Lions now. Congratulations to Matthew Stafford, he will do just fine.
