Cleveland Browns Draft Alex Mack, Add 6 Others With First-Round Pick

The Cleveland Browns entered Saturday's NFL draft with the fifth pick. They'll exit the draft having used that pick to acquire seven players.

Through a series of trades, the Browns moved down and down and down again, all the while picking up extra players and/or extra picks. First, the Browns dealt the fifth overall pick to the Jets, acquiring the Jets' first- and second-round picks, plus defensive end Kenyon Coleman, quarterback Brett Ratliff and defensive back Abram Elam.

Then, when Cleveland was on the clock with the first-round pick that had belonged to the Jets, the Browns traded down again, this time with Tampa Bay. The Browns got the Bucs' first- and sixth-rounders.

And they weren't done there. When the Browns were on the clock with the Bucs' pick, they traded down once more, this time with Philadelphia, for the Eagles' first- and sixth-round picks.

With the Eagles' first-round pick, the Browns finally made a choice, adding Cal center Alex Mack. So that means the Browns got the following with the fifth pick in the draft:

Alex Mack
Kenyon Coleman
Brett Ratliff
Abram Elam
Jets' second-round pick
Buccaneers' sixth-round pick
Eagles' sixth-round pick

This team needs a lot of depth, and it's getting a lot of depth. I like what Cleveland is doing.
