Scouting Report: Absolute monster in blocking, shows a propensity for pancaking opponents, but can move around and get to the second level. Good pass blocker. Seems to understand the game well, makes adjustments quickly. Mental make-up is a major question mark. Went AWOL at NFL scouting combine, suspended for Alabama's bowl game. Weight constantly an issue.
2009 Outlook: So who's going to take the chance? During the college season, Smith looked like a consensus top-five, and possible even top-two pick. Then the off-field issues hit. If he regroups and focuses, some team could wind up making a huge steal outside the top-10.
